Is there a reason a big stove can't heat DHW like the furnaces do?

I don't think either is designed to heat water. A boiler yes, but not a stove and I don't think most furnaces have a DHW loop in them either. Installing a DHW loop in an appliance that is not designed for one can be VERY dangerous. It can be done with proper thought, execution, and safeguards, but it's generally deemed highly unsafe and most insurance companies, building inspectors, and appliance manufactures would say absolutely NOT.

You're better off keeping water loops away from intense heat and appliances which didn't come with them... things can go boom in a big and bad way!

There's outfits like therma-coil.com and hilkoil.com that make stainless steel coils to go inside a stove.
The consesus seems to be that this is not good for EPA stoves. For epa's, use something like this, (broken link removed)
Of course you'll have to clean your chimney more than once a year now.

An old boiler man told me that stainless is not as good as black pipe for heat transfer and the little extra corrosion resistance is not worth the extra large price.

There is also an outfit in the States now producing woodstove boilers that look like windowed wood stoves but their name eludes me at the moment.

Ok, if fantasizing, I would like a 7 to 10 cf firebox, with a side or top load door door that had a conveyor mounted to it, attached to the conveyor would be a very large hopper or bin that you stack splits in. Then the loading door, conveyor and he door on the bin/hopper would all be automatically controlled by a " dial a split" knob. Which you could set for say minimum 2 or 3 splits to max load splits of say 12 to 15 or more, whatever fills the fire box. Fill the bin, dial the split count in, it opens the bin door, drops specified amount of splits to conveyor, runs the conveyor of splits to loading door which also auto opens, dumps splits in stove, opens air to full, closes the doors, shuts down conveyor, after its back up to temp & charred good, temp sensor auto tunes air down to desired heat output setting, and she burns away, till a certain drop temp is reached, and does it all over again. Man that would be saaaaaaawwwwwwwwwweeeeeettttttttttttttttttt!! Of course it would need all the safety fail safes also, jammed conveyor or doors, overfire, too cool a burn etc. Oh and maybe a warning bell when the hopper has say one load or 5 or so splits left in it, to remind ya to refill the bin.

I really like the idea of even heat with the automatic damper and thermostat of the Blaze King.

I must say that I absolutely Love :cheese: My Englander 30 but with my house set-up and location, I need a second stove and want something with less wood consumption, super long burn times and larger capacity.

With my back and neck problems I need to do less cutting,splitting and stacking! :down:

Hmmm, I'd have to pass on that one. Not very aesthetic to look at. Where is the window? Doesn't look EPA approved. His logs look like they were cut that day.
And not sure how good a seal he gets on the top with the clumps of dirt & stuff resting on the closing surface.
I do like the push button lid closer though. But he should have it set up where you don't have to hold the button the entire time the lid closes.
Pretty impressive if home built though. I wonder how long that lasts and how much wood he uses a season?

epa stoves require hot burn for clean burn & water coil would cool the firebox

ithinx u mean boiler not furnace. cleanburn boiler involves gassification & mostly a hot burn however to burn clean. gotta have stochoimetrically positive environment for stochiometrcally delicious results,eh?

Definitely mean furnaces. The big stoves have comparable fireboxes and output to that of the furnaces that advertise heating dhw.
