This is an unquestionably confirmed round of red oak I personally felled, bucked, split, and stacked two years ago. It is still in my stack.

Those small rounds look like ash The fungi usually is found on ash.
The tell tale of red oak is the aroma!! Give it the smell test. Red oak is very distinctive;)

Pic 2 is 100% red oak without a doubt. Lichens are prevalent on Red Oaks in the Northeast. All of mine are covered in them. Likewise with Ash trees. The soft and sugar maples don't seem to get it, but the Norways do.. It's symbiotic, yet ugly.
