Forgive my provincial ways, but Amish people use chainsaws? I know they're great electricians and all, but I thought that they eschewed gasoline powered thingamajigs.
Yup, the Dover Amish as they're referred to here do use chainsaws. And skid loaders, tractors, electric tools on job sites. Thing is, they're not supposed to own any of that. They can use 'em all day long, they just don't own 'em. Much is borrowed or rented.
Most Amish communities here have land line phones as well. There's a little building, similar to a small outhouse beside the driveway that has a phone inside. Apparently, they can't have the phone in their home so they put it in a hut beside the driveway.
When we bought this house the previous owner was an Amish family. They left behind a gas engine-powered well pump. It worked.
