The EPA just drives me nuts. All the regulations drive everyone out of business. I applaud VW for creating a way to pass emission tests. If I had the money right now I'd go out and buy a new car just to support them. When companies do things that the EPA doesn't like you hear all sorts of crap about it, but when the EPA does something bad it's all hush hush. Like the EPA contaminating that river, how much was said about that?

To bad we can't get energy from all the hot air and bungling that dept seems to do.

They probably could have gotten away with it had they not tied so many systems to the bypass. Barometer, steering wheel placement, GPS to name a couple.

The EPA cost us alooot of $$ with their regs. Just like the mandates on electric generation . They raise the green energy % each year with generation which directly cost more to make the electric. Then the generation cost go up and we the peons have to pay it unless you are off the grid. I am all for green energy but I'm not willing to pay a significant more for it. Another example is ethanol , I would like to know the true #s on it. If you could drive a 1975 truck ( big&heavy) 100 miles on idk 6 gallons of gas . Now you drive a new Light weight ( poss aluminum) with all the crap strapped to it for clean burning and ethanol to get about the same or even worse mileage ?? . Soooo in a way we're burning more gas to go the same distance if you calculate in vehicle weight /size and try to get an even comparison. What are we accomplishing? I want my old 1978 truck back! At leas it's cheaper and I can change a spark plug on it.

The EPA is seriously out of control and out of touch with the common US taxpayer.
I do believe in having an agency watch out for the good of the public, and to help congress make laws with scientific insight; but today this organization is acting like the wild west.
There was no congressional approval to enforce the "new" clean air requirements that have todays power plants shutting down left and right. The reason why there was no approval on that level is because there was no scientific studies to prove how dangerous coal (2005 standards) are verse the 2009 standards, these guys are just shooting from the "hip" in the name of public safety.
As far a diesel vehicles - I'm very mad at them for screwing up my 2011 gmc 2500, the truck has all of that *clean epa reburn regen crap, the poor truck cant even breath, it defeats the purpose of having a diesel with the reduced mileage I get. The only nice thing is I found a "kit" to remove all that epa stuff, I might drop my soon to be extra emissions parts on the white house front lawn.

Agency is about as effective as the WH security with guys running across lawn and getting in, or the mailman flying a 100 mph gyrocopter to the front lawn.
We need to get the thread back on track or move it:)

That has got to be the cheapest in the US. Was a big meeting at Becker MN about the new EPA regs that may force that coal plant that produces 25% of MN electric needs to shut down. It is helping keep the states energy costs down. I pay 12 cents with a $25 a month connection fee.

I don't believe so. I looked into solar for a friend in TX. His per KW rate was around 7 or 8 cents. I was floored.

Another reason I see companies moving to TX:(

Around last march I switched my electric water heater "which was a little over a year old" out and put in a LP water heater. With the LP water heater I am saving anywhere from 20-40 a month on my electric bill over the previous year. It sips the LP, needle on the tank has hardly moved. Plus it heats my water much faster. I can drain the tank and have it completely hot up to 140 degrees in 20 minutes. My electric one would take over an hour to heat back up.

Our electric water heater only costs $20-25/mo of $0.18/kwh electricity to run - so I haven't found anything else yet that would offer anything reasonable in terms of payback time for us. (It only runs 6 months max per year - rest of the time it's heated by wood). If we had access to NG, that might be a whole other story - or if we already had LP for other things here, that might be an option too. But we don't. Even a solar setup with theoretical zero monthly operating costs has a payback period that is way out there. An add-on HPWH is a maybe.

With only 400 bucks invested in my HPHW.. comparing it to oil was a no brainer. Granted, it was an 'open box' kind of deal with a place that offers support, but no warranty.

It has worked measurably better though. No more hot basement from having fires in summer. AC in the studio space above works much less. Extremely happy with the setup. I 'flip the switch' once a month or so and let the oil boiler run.. just to keep it exercised.

My wife's family grew up in DePere. We would visit them and take our kids to the practices. I was always amazed at the small town mentality of the Packers. Amazing town, amazing players, amazing organization, and amazing fans!

thanks! I know our family takes pride in treating the opposing teams fans with respect when at games (we have season tix). -HERE'S- a neat article on this past Sunday night's game. It's not the first time someone has written in after watching their team play at Lambeau and left amazed at the hospitality. I think there were two related articles written last year. I know there will always be "those fans" who are just plain drunk and obnoxious, but hopefully it's not the norm.

HPWH is the way to go. I save $1,500 a year with mine over oil.

Great article. It's sad that this is now the exception. I figure I'll never be lucky enough to see GB play in Lambeau so we went to see GB play Pittsburgh in the preseason and almost everybody was nice. There were a few a-holes when we were leaving, but that wasn't too bad. I love the Packers and Cheeseheads.......yumm.....cheese......

If you ever know you'll be in town in advance for a home game, send me a PM. If my parents happen to have a pair of tix they are not using for that game they may sell them to you (for face value of course). They tend to favor the first time in Lambeau crowd. It's the same seats my dad sat and watched the "Ice Bowl" from a couple days removed from getting home from Vietnam.....well before I was around. ;-)

Wow, that's very generous. We may just have to look at visiting the DePere family this football season. If I can make this work out, I will definitely send you a message. Thanks again!
