A new low: an ad slowly dropping down from the top - but not only the first half inch or so (phone screen) - which btw inconveniently blocks access to the menu items, including the bell was the new unseen posts in threads I'm watching...😠 - but now dropping across 3/4 of the screen. SLOOOOOWLY. And I can't click the "go away" (up arrow) button until it is all the way down. And did I mention SLOOOOOWLY going down?

Please. This is user harassment.

I see these creeping into several sites, Facebook is terrible. It's gotten so bad that I rarely use my phone anymore for forums and social media. This is what drove the masses from commercial broadcast TV to streaming. I suspect it will have the same effect to internet sites.

Doesn't the organization behind hearth.com have a say in what ad placement/location/mode is programmed into the website (even if ad content is managed by e g. Google)?

I only knew it was live for 16 seconds and I’m a supporter now. Thanks Hearth.com

When was this announced? I’ve been waiting patiently.
Exactly. @webfish above mentioned it was erroneously rolled out earlier.
There was no update afterwards.

Can the mods/admins make an official announcement?

Found it.

Go to the home page (click on logo above).
Click on the three dots to the right, there was an upgrade now option there to pay, support and get rid of the ads as a benefit.

I never get.to the home page and that option was not visible to me elsewhere on the site.

I'm glad you found the link. An announcement, front page link, etc. are up to Jim, the owner.

Ok. Can you suggest to Jim? Or at least let him know that the opportunity is hard to find as it is?

You've already tagged him (webfish) earlier. He might be on vacation but will see it soon.

Well I know for myself I'm already coming around here less...seems like every other time theres some new PITA thing to figure out how to work through...

I’m happy to pay a little to get uninterrupted access.
I can totally imagine that visitors, that could potentially turn into members that constructively contribute to conversations, could be put off and leave due to the amount of ads and pop ups before they really get hooked enough to put up with it or pay. It was truly ridiculous on mobile, which is all I use. My laptop is primarily used for work, I do social on my phone, as I imagine most do or will in the future.

But man, it’s nice to have 0 ads/banners/pop-ups/nothin’ since I punched in my digits a couple days ago.

I wonder if after you pay to dump the ads if you also stop getting 3rd party cookies and tracking cookies dropped into your computer as well.

I think yes, because now I don't see links e.g. to products that others recommend in posts - with the note that I would need to enable third party cookies (which I haven't).

For what it's worth, adblocker plus (ABP) says it blocked 0 (zero) items on this page. I do not see any ads or pop-ups. I think it must be third party scripts running. The Noscript add-on should take care of that. For this page I only allow scripts from hearth.com, and I see that inmobi.com and tashop.co (is that Columbia, the country?) scripts are present that would very much like to run... ;-)
In my browser settings I also only allow pop-ups from very few specific sites, and have them be default disabled.
