How many of you guys/gals rely on your stove 100%?

We use about 95% wood. We have no ductwork in our house; it has always been heated with wood, from what the 2 previous owners told me (one is 80 years old and lived here while in college). We have a lot of forest land with mature trees, and the area has heavy rain and wind storms, so over the years we will probably have nearly enough firewood just from fallen trees. My wife got tired of being cold while we were still using the old Fisher stove (now we have a Lopi Endeavor), so she bought an oil-filled radiator electric heater that we use in our bathroom. It makes us more comfortable on the tile floors, and takes keeps our adjacent bedroom a little warmer. She also uses an electric blanket and throw part time. We've talked about getting a heatpump, but probably would need to fix some wiring and our electric panel first. Since I wanted to keep a wood stove, we opted to go to a new efficient woodstove and wait on any other major heating equipment.

Tell us more about this elderly relative heating system that worked so well for you!
I know my grandpa used to blow a lot of hot air himself...

He still resides in the basement! He is in good shape for his age. But he requires a good draft and his chimney has aged from hanging outside too long. But Grandpa Fisher Will get his second wind again!

As close to 100% as I can. Thermostat set at 66 for heat pump/LP furnace. Just went out and checked and I see no discernible usage of LP at all so far this year. (gas man last year only came once and I turned him away.) I've used heat pump very little and only when temps are in the low 40's to take the chill out of the air. House has fans in most doorways and moves cold air surprisingly well out of those rooms. Like others, I expect furnace will kick in further on into winter, but most likely only in the wee hours of the morning.

For the past 2 years I have been trying to use my wood stove to heat my house 100%. Today i looked around my house with all of my fans and humidifiers and I had a bit of an epiphany.

Why don't I use my wood stove to supplement my heating system?

1. I can run my stove in it's most efficient operating zone rather than pushing it as a blast furnace 100% of the time wasting wood.
2. My furnace returns are in the room where my stove is so when my furnace does kick in it would mostly be redistributing the existing heat.
3. My hvac has a built in humidifier.

I don't look at this as a failure, just a better use of resources.......

Thoughts!

Been 100%, for one week, as of today. Actually, I don't even have a functioning furnas, at the moment. Hopefully, in a week or two..
