I was lucky enough to score a huge oak tree that my neighbor had taken down. As soon as I saw the tree service pull up I ran out and asked them about the wood, they said I could have it and bucked it into 18" lengths for me. All I had to do was roll it out of her yard and right into my driveway (easier said than done, it took my dad, 2 brothers, girlfriend and myself to move them!!). That was the Friday after thanksgiving.
Forward to yesterday when I finally had a full day to start splitting this stuff up. I figured I could hit it all with the pro splitter and super splitter (just received on Friday from the GF for our anniversary!). My dad came over and we started first thing in the morning. About 2 hours in a gentleman walks by on his daily stroll, we give the usual wave and the "Hey, how's it going?". About 10 minutes later he comes back and says "Hey guys, I live a couple of streets down and have a log splitter. Do you want me to bring it over?" I wasn't going to turn that down, it would prove to make our day much more productive. He brought it over and had the thing running and ready to go.
A couple free cords of wood and a free splitter for the day. I love my neighborhood. I'll drop by his house with a gift cert. for a restaurant or a nice bottle of something today.
(Since it didn't happen if there are no pics, I'll try to post some soon)
