So we got our stove in 2022 and we've encountered our first problem. The Primary Air Handle went dead and wasn't doing anything. Upon further inspection through an air intake at the back of the wood stove. We saw and found a pin just laying at the bottom of the pan. This pin seems to control a small air handle door which opens and closes. However based on the pin it looked like it may have been connected to something else as it's sheered off at the top. Currently, the small air vent door is in the open position but we've been getting pretty poor performance out of the stove so I'm thinking there's more to it. We are not that happy... We paid close to 5k for a stove that didn't even make 2 years with moderate use. Frustrating to say the least! Now I'm trying to figure out how to fix before winter strikes!

That should be a warranty issue. Has the dealer been contacted?

Yeah I think it's just that little trap door part 50. I used a camera scope to look up in there and I just don't see how air gets into the firebox. Looking inside the firebox it would have to come from somewhere on the top of the firebox and part 46 I believe is the part / pin that sheared off somehow......Very odd. Hearthstone Support still hasn't gotten back to me. LOL. I had left a message to a technician who supposedly has worked there for over 40 years and knows all about these stoves. Almost 5K for a stove that didn't even make it two years and lousy customer support to boot!

It doesn’t matter how long he’s worked there, this is a new design stove. I forget his name but have dealt with him and he is fantastically helpful. Bill, Jim, something like that.

Good luck. At least it’s not super cold yet.

I just installed my Heritage lV 3 days ago. The air intake lever worked quite hard. No where near as smooth as my Phoenix stove is. After using it for 2 days when I worked the air intake lever to open it full open something snapped and is flopping back and forth with ease. I assume that the pin sheared off after reading these posts. Tried all day to call the dealer I bought from with no answer.

Yes from my understanding there's a defect in the pin and it can shear off. I went to the dealer where I bought the stove after calling Hearthstone themselves. They've sent a repair kit. With the repair kit you would need to drill and tap by hand the hole where that retaining pin fell out of. If you don't feel comfortable doing that I would hire a professional. I did mine added some blue loctite to make sure everything holds and so far I haven't had any issues. Air handler control works as it should now. Since my stove was still under warranty I didn't have to pay for the repair kit.

Does your primary air control lever work smoothly after you installed the repair kit, or does it feel like there is some restriction? Mine was Very restricted. Almost like the grooves that the block off plate slides in are to tight.

I think it depends on how hard you tighten the nut that holds the lever. The tighter you tighten the more restricted it will feel. If you don't really tighten the nut at all it will feel loose and have very little resistence. I like it in the middle.

Ok, thanks. The dealer that I bought my stove from is Closed all this week! So I have to wait till Monday to call back. And then start the long and frustrating process. It's hard to believe they shipped this out like this.
