I just had my harman installed in June so unless they made a major change since then I would say it's not normal. With Harman now a part of the Hearth & Home Technologies, is it possible that they have changed the gauge/composition of steel they use? Sounds like metal expansion/contraction but much louder than my "not a Harman" stove. If the stove is off level (front to back opposing sides), would that add more stress to the metal causing louder noises?
I have a Harman p35i insert it does not make those soundsNot normal my accentra has never made that loud of a popping noise actually never heard a sound like that coming from it
Glad to hear that you got things straitened out and everything is working wellStove was replaced today,
First: they agreed that the bolt spacers were a bit haney. And more professional spacers should have been installed (i installed my own before they came back out). There are no leveling points on the frame outside of the firebox. Had them check the installed frame and it was leveled and true. The frame was not replaced, only the stove.
Second: So far i have only gone through a heating up cycle (stove is running now) and so far, no noise at all. Not even a small pop or ting. I am going to use it a few days and let it go through a few cooling and heating cycles. I will update at you all at that time. I showed the video to the installers, and they also agreed that it was not normal, nor have they seen/heard of these noises before. Although one of the installers said that they heard that harman said that "slag" was the culprit. So i am assuming that there was a weld splatter issue in the distribution duct way that interfered with an expansion/contraction area. My other guesses would be a faulty lack of weld penetration weld or the opposite at a overly penetrating weld that would be interrupting a expansion/contraction joint, or mating area.
Truthfully the bolts are not a huge concern themselves. They only warn me that maybe the install was rushed and not done as well as it should have. I can easily make and replace them with shims at work, (although i shouldn't have to and am contacting the installer on this issue as well as the noises). The major concern are the noises coming from the stove and what is causing them. I had the day off from work today and took some video if the noises. Could you guys take a look and confirm with me that these are NOT normal...? I just want to make sure in case i get a response from the dealer that popping and tinging noises are normal. I mean it says they are in the manual but i think that these are pretty extreme. Also note that this video was edited, first few seconds are during warm up and the others are during cool down. This is multiple clips put together. I would say that the stove pops or makes some sort of popping noise about every minuet or so until fully warm and than agian during cool down these. Thanks all!. (don't mind my dog walking around the hard wood flooring )
Chris.
I know this is an old tread but my insert is making the same sound. I had it installed in June, it was doing fine for maybe 1-2 weeks now it's popping like crazy. I read that this gentleman got his replaced, our stoves are almost a year apart. I would hope whatever the issue was would have been resolved. Has anyone found any information on what is causing the sound. Thanks for any help folks.
You may have just had it installed but what is it`s birthday? You would find it on the WH plate that is on the back. I know, a pain to have to pull it out but that is the only way I know ... unless there is something in your owner's manual. My stove was two years old when I bought it...I know this is an old tread but my insert is making the same sound. Usually all the way out ... You'll need the info when you talk to Harman dealer anyway May want to get photo of plate while you're there...I haven't pulled the stove out yet, are we talking all the way out or a little bit. Sorry for the rookie question.
