Make sure it is well seasoned and split it smaller if you want it to burn faster.

I've been burning very dry oak and it does very nicely.

The red oak I have is pretty well seasoned; it's been split and drying in the desert sun for 18 months. It burns well enough, it's just that the difference in the way the oak and the pine burn is night and day.
