Hi all! Coming here for some advice, after trying our hand at an interior stone wall behind our Vermont Castings Resolute 😅 First pic is after setting the natural thin stone veneers, and the 2nd and 3rd pics are 24 hours after grouting. We used Spec Mix Type S mortar & their color pigment canister. To get it through the grout bag, we had to make the mixture a little more watery than we would’ve liked (also could of been a newbie error, but in the moment we couldn’t figure out a better plan), and we gave it some time once applied between the stones to take a better form before smoothing it out.
It’s now been about 3 days since application and we notice a few spots in the grout that we missed or that could have been filled in a little more. Aesthetically speaking, we’re happy with how it turned out considering this was our first go at something like this.
My questions:
1.) Since this is an interior wall which won’t be exposed to the elements, is it a bad thought to add in any additional mortar down the road if we make the same mix up again? Or is there no real need? My main concern is if this will affect the sturdiness of the wall at all
2.) Cure time before using the wood stove. We were planning on 7 days but can definitely wait longer if recommended
Thanks in advance for those who made it to the end of this rant 😅
