I just went to HD to check out a sale on a shop vac (for the pellet stove), but ended-up with this one instead. I paid about the same price, but love how small and portable this is....and I cleaned the stove and it works GREAT! Bought a 3 pack of replacement filters too.

Why didn't I get this before, instead of lugging the big shop vac up from the workshop?.....DUH. This fits in the little closet in the laundry room.

That's a much better size than what I am using. Do you need a special filter to keep the ash in?

It comes with a paper filter, and when I started using it, I tried to watch to make sure no ash went through....I didn't see anything.

I looked at that one also but couldn't find the drywall dust bags for it. I was told that those bags are only made for 5 gallon vac or larger. Did you find some smaller bags?

HD has small drywall bags (LG, Med, Sm), and I think the small could be cut down to work on this, but I bought the ones made for it (3 pack), which are the same as the one that came with it. I didn't see any ash coming out of it.

Syd, did you get the drywall bags at Wally World too? If so, do you have a model/part # or a link? Maybe they'll fit the one i bought.

I don't see them on line, let me get the number off of the bags. It's Shop Vac #90671. Bought them in the store.

Not to dampen your spirits but unless you can get drywall filters or maybe a possible hepa filter for your vac it will not last. I had a Shop Vac 3 gallon that I could only find paper filters for. I didn't see ash emitting from the vac itself but the dust and soot eventually filtered through to the motor assembly and in a short period of time the vac was shot. I use a smaller version of a Ridgid, I can buy hepa filters for it and it most definitely has all the power I need plus I can wash the filter. Good luck, I hope this works for you.

Macman, what diameter hose is on that one? The specs only listed 4ft but not the diameter. I just bought a vac similar with a 1-1/2 inch dia hose and now I am having trouble finding a brush that size to fit on it. adaptors seem to be 2" and 1-1/4". They are great portable vacs. I had a 16 gallon but I didn't want to be lugging it around. These smaller ones easy to carry and move.

[Edit] Here is the one I just bought for myself.

I guess everyone got sick of hearing the death thrones of my old shop vac with moaning bearings I found this by the stove this morning, :wow: Looks like yours to Sydney I am using the filter bags along with a fine dust cartridge filter.

That's a great price. Did you buy it in the store or order it online. Looks like it is out of stock online right now.

It was one of those 5 AM deals in store, gonna go use it in a bit if I can get off this site.

Hope you got the drywall bags for it. If not your gonne blow black dust all over your house.

The hose is 1 1/2", but the plastic nozzle is 1 1/4". I used the brush off the "never used central vacuum system, because it's a PIA to lug all that hose all over the house".........which fit perfectly. LOL

I think this is the same as the one I have:

I plan on changing the filter often, but if it dies, I can always return it....1 Yr. warranty. Next time I'm back at HD, I'm going to check into those small slip-on drywall bags they had....maybe i can make one of those work.

Thanks for the reply on the hose and brush. Looks like I may need to search some more for the proper adaptor or brush. I don't know why it would be so hard to find a vac brush for 1.5" hose. Oh, well.

Anyway...merry christmas to yourself...lol...you are not going to open it until xmas, right ;-)

unfortunately jj is right. I murdered a vac in a year due to
the crap getting all inside the motor.

All this talk about vacuums and hepa filters!!! Wait until you suck up a hot ember and stowe your vac away. GOOD BYE HOUSE. Get a pellet stove vac. Why risk your health, house, or life for a few $$$? Oh, I am considered poverty income, not close to having savings, 401k or life insurance. I have learned cutting corners never pays.

I only suck up the ashes after the stove is cold. I use a large craftsman shop vac with the original paper filter. It seems to filter all the ash out well but the filter clogs easy and needs "bumped " out every couple times. I want to get a small vacum because that big one is is a PITA to lug around.

All you have to do is let your stove cool off.

Thanks Syd for stating the obvious for me.....I NEVER clean the stove until I'm SURE it's cold, and I brush 95% of the ash into the ashpan anyway. The amount I actually vacuum up could fit into a coffee cup. That's why I liked the little vac.
