Getting ready for the season...

On the roof yesterday, sweeping the chimney in 80° weather. Didn't get much out, maybe two or three cups. Thought about just sweeping every other year, but I think I'm too anal for that.
I've been spending far too much time messing with my very old jotul 602n, and was going to pull the trigger on the new f 602 v2 and see if I could take advantage of the tax break. However, it seems that they are discontinued, and not coming out with a v3 until maybe next month? Not great timing.

Also trying to figure out a good way to see if I have any leaks in my secondary air system. It doesn't take much to kill all secondary burn on that stove. I think maybe if I cover up the holes on the manifold, put a small fan exhausting out the back of the secondary air intake, and seeing if any smoke is still pulled out from the firebox...

You may still be able to find a dealer that has a 602 V2 in stock. I think they are still allowed to sell them.

Where did you hear that the V3 was coming out next month? I really thought as popular as this stove is they would of introduced it a long time ago.

I called a local dealer about the V3, he had an email from Jotul. Yeah, the timing is poor. Seems the V3 is/almost the same as the V2, but the V2 didn't pass EPA regs or...something. Which means that it probably wouldn't qualify for a credit even if I could find one.
Ah, damn. kicked off the main board into Jotul purgatory again...

I’ve seen a picture of the new V3 and it had a cat under the cooking plate so it will probably qualify for the tax credit.

I think the cat just sits on top of the current baffle. It will be a hybrid similar to the F500v3 and the new F445. They are also revamping the F45 this way.

Hmm. Looks expensive and complicated. I wonder what the MSRP will be. Do you know what it was for the v2?

I also wonder if the new V3 will have the auto secondary air control like their other stoves?

While that may help the stove pass the test for the EPA credit, I have concerns about this. Unlike the F500v3, this cat is far forward. Concerns emerge about flame impingement and lifespan of the small cat. With no bypass, it will see and pass a lot of smoke until heated up.

Totally understand. I’m also also too anal to do the every other year sweeping, especially because it’s not too difficult to sweep annually. that said, with my particular stove, I’ve figured a way to make it a little bit less of a chore by taking a couple of small shortcuts that do the job to pretty much a 95% good degree. I figure I’ll do the full shebang every two or three years due to not getting very much when I do sweep.

Yeah, I’m not sure how I like a cat without a bypass but their cat has larger cells for better flow and I believe it’s steel so that should help. Also a 20 year warranty.

20 year warranty makes it a non issue. And you can just take the cook plate off for a bypass. Where are you getting this info on the stove?
