My door gasket seems to seal well when it's burning at moderate temperatures, it passes the "lit match" test where no smoke seems to be sucked in. However, when I get it really full and hot for an overnight burn, some small gaps open up where I can see into the firebox. I'm wondering if it's worth changing the gasket for this? The amount of air that could be sucked in doesn't seem big compared to what's coming through the secondaries.

Try the dollar bill test by closing the stove door on half of a dollar bill and then pulling out the dollar. If it pulls out with no resistance then air is likely leaking in there. If there is some or strong resistance, then the gasket is sealing.

If it's visibly leaking (can look in through the gap), it should be replaced imo.

I have not heard of changes in gasket seating as a function of temperature before though?

This could be door alignment or warpage. It would be helpful to note the make and model of the stove.

But that's with a cold stove.
Get a metal straight edge, check the door when cold, and do so again when hot.

Has the latch had any adjustment? If not, try removing one spacer and see if that helps.

Check the door gasket sealing surface on the stove for uniformity/straightness as well.

They should not be there.

Whether they are a problem depends on other parameters as well.

I'm not sure how to do the dollar bill test when the stove is that hot. Seems like it would immediately catch on fire and be dangerous.
Yes, it needs to be done with a cold stove.
How old is the stove door gasket?

It could be long overdue. Replace the door gasket with an OEM Regency gasket.
Regency uses AMATEX # 10-863KR 7/8" dia. gasket (Part #846-570)

Yet, having things open up when hot is not right..(and imo not necessarily gasket related).
Do check the door for temp dependent warping.

There can be minor movement due to heating. This is a thick gasket that should accomodate the minor movement and still seal properly. I'm going with Occam's razor on this one.
