Not a huge deal, but a year ago I has some creosote fall into that gap onto the top of the wood stove and Cause some issues. (it fell inside, got hot, and sparks were blowing out the front of my stove. I guess when I had the stove installed my chimney was a bit dirty so some has fallen since install)

I called my home/hearth place and they suggested putting a ceramic fire blanket on top. I bought one, cut out a 6" hole and sat it on top of my stove.

I just realized that blanket is rather dangerous and I obviously have a small gap, this is sitting on top, and the stove is blowing air and a little bit of it has air going over it.

I can't imagine the exposure is much, if anything....but knowing this isn't sitting well with me.

Any ideas? could I put a 6" collar on?

I have an insert but attached a picture of a standalone neo. The arrows point to the gap. The blanket is sitting on top so only blanket exposure is the air that would blow over that gap underneath.

So if I'm understanding correctly, you had a liner installed to your insert but the installer did not sweep the flue before dropping the liner?

I'm sorry to tell you but that is a hazardous install and needs to be redone. No creosote should be in the chimney when the liner is dropped in or you end up with issues like what you are experiencing, which could lead to a structure fire.

hmmmmm - its been about 6 years since installed and I've burned every year. Liner is a double wall insulated flexible liner.

Can it be swept at all with the liner in place? Removing everything would be a huge PITA.
Unfortunatly, if it wasn't cleaned before the liner was installed, then the liner needs to be removed and a thorough chimney cleaning done including the smokeshelf area.
