Well I'll bet my Harman has way more US of A in it then your " fujitsu"-"fukushima" rig your running..... that most like only contains our technology. Honestly, I could care less where YOUR stove is made. Its the contradiction between your avatar and your signature that makes my teeth hurt...Just saying
Actually most of OUR worthwhile heating technology comes from Europe !

speaking of avatars....your teeth probably hurt cuz your head is in a frozen pond !!;lol

tank-less water heaters, in floor radiant heating (maybe Asia), "mini" heat pumps, I'm pretty certain most of the "small form" based heating products. Didn't these "small" in your living quarters pellet boilers start in Europe ? Not 100% certain, I just remember going to trade shows years back and it seemed every advancement was said to have "been used in Europe for the last 20-50 years"

The only reason Europe is more efficient than we are is because of politics. Efficiency is seen as a thorn to capitalism in this country. The more we burn the more we spend, and that is exactly how industry here likes it. Their cars have been running circles around us for decades.

Or you could say efficiency directly correlates with capitalism, and the reason more technology comes out of Europe is because certain political party's make it WAY to expensive to pay for research and development time and way to expensive to manufacture. We as a country graduate 1 engineer per every 4 lawyers.......

The thing with cars until the last decade there cars could not compare to the saftey of ours, Most Americans care more about there family being safe than they do about driving a feather that is manipulated by a strong gust of wind !!!

I might contradict myself as such a massive supporter of local economy when I agree and say: 'Murica

So, are there any US made mini-split mfrs out there?

Here are a few heat pump manufacturers, not sure how many make mini splits: http://energy.sourceguides.com/busi...eatpump/byB/manufacturers/manufacturers.shtml

There used to be 2 or 3 in Brewer/Bangor Maine that made them.... Hallowell Heat Pumps, Nyle, and another I can't remember. Hallowell went out of business due to some issues with the units I think, but someone later figured out a simple $30 fix for them I think. I have a Hallowell dehumidifier heat pump making domestic hot water in the summer when the boiler gets secured for the year. There are American made options, I'm sure some of the components are imported though.

I am looking for opinions from some long time pellet users so I can make a better decision. Right now I am paying around 800 (CA weather) a year avg for the last 3 years in propane. but that is with my thermostat at 68 tops and that's maybe 8 hours out of the day. the rest is 66 or so. Needless to say, its cold half the time.
I have been wanting to fill my useless fire place with a pellet insert but never knew that pellet stoves were so much money. So im on the fence of getting a pellet stove due to the initial 4k investment and it taking about 7 years for pay off. I have also read that blower motors go out every 3 years or so, but it seems that these people are burning 3 tons a season as I will be burning around 1 ton. I also have read people saying they have rebuilt their stove. What does that mean?
I guess Id like to see what he maintenance costs are on a yearly basis as well as how much has to be replaced every 5 years or so. I plan on doing the maintenance myself. My savings from leaving propane wont be as signifigant as some of you on the east coast so I want to make sure that my "savings" aren't going to be eaten up by parts.
My set up right now is a 5 yr old propane system that is 80% efficient and am looking to buy a harman p35i. The stove at my local retailer is $2699 plus $550 install and another $450 for the chimney.

Thanks for the help and info in advance

Here is a link to a calculator which should help you do the math:

Let us know what you decide!

Again it doesn't matter much what brand most of it is still not made in America.
We just simply went with what was considered the most efficient and top of the line at the time, I'm glad we did the thing works great. Frankly it has probably saved us enough money to be able to afford the pellet stove !!

I have to disagree with your all or nothing philosophy. We don't live in an economic bubble, everything we do is global.

There are two kinds of labels to look for, made in USA (whereby all or majority of components come from here [as a side note this label is regulated by the FTC]) or assembled in USA (the latter, as the label implies it was mostly put together here).

In both cases, part of what you pay goes to the pockets of a fellow American, helping keep some of that money in our economy. The more people that do this, the stronger the case becomes to continue to do so.

me too...but just maybe I have had my head buried too long! Like I said before ". Its the contradiction between your avatar and your signature that makes my teeth hurt...Just saying" ...and your words too... semi offensive to some... would that be an "oxymoron" ?? or just ..............?

So whats the problem ?
Your post simply reiterates what Ive said in 3 different post...........

This is all simply because somebody has an issue with an avatar ?? DON'T LOOK AT IT ! My apologies for not having it approved by iceguy, are YOU an "ICEGUY" are you made out of "ice", live on an iceberg ???;lol.......Who has time to concern themselves with the logic of a pic ??

I really have nothing more to say about the avatar it says "Made In America" and I own many things that were not "Made In America" along with everybody else here and anyplace else DEAL WITH IT !

My apologies to the rest of you who are tired of hearing about my avatar ;lol

And my apologies as well for pointing it out....all this time alone on this "iceberg" has me.... nuts...

EDIT: LOL

I'd definitely check out all my options if I were in your shoes. In my area electric is only slightly more expensive than pellets. With your temps, electric or propane might make more sense.

If you live in a house with rooms that have doors--as opposed to the current obsession with "flow"--electric heat can be very efficient. You can heat only the room you're in, and even use a space heater.

That said, there are non-economic values to pellet stoves. In our house, for example, when we use fuel oil all the heat rises. The second floor can be too hot, and the first floor too cold. Finally, we have a toasty living room. Shorts and T-shirt in January.

And electric heat is 100% efficient !

another note on this subject.....not sure if its available in all areas, but here in "penn-elec" country a little secret that they prefer not to publish is "time of day" meters (residential). Much like large manufacturing company's that get a lower rate for electricity during "off peak" hours, I have the same setup at my home and our rental property's. during the evening and weekends I pay IIRC 3.8 cent a KwH, but during the day its (again IIRC) 7-8 cents a KwH. Her and I both work daylight hours so it VERY beneficial for us to do this.
