Firewood For the Poor in North Carolina

Our state department of corrections participates in some kind of program to give firewood to low income people. The facility in the article isn't the only one that has inmates cutting firewood. Sounds like seasoning is up to the recipients.

Same here, except with the parolees/community service folks.

They even stack it during the summer until fall

Plus, I betcha many of the grateful recipients give a nice home cooked meal to the inmates.

I work for the department. The inmates where I work don't split firewood, but I'm sure those that do aren't allowed to receive anything from the people they split wood for. I enjoy cutting and splitting wood. So if I was an inmate, I'd love to be in the program.
I'm all for anything that has inmates doing work to help people on the outside.

He told me he was real busy and he was 35 loads behind.

I hope he gets some help soon. I work with a lot of volunteers and I do a lot of volunteering myself. Maybe I am projecting too much of my own situation onto him, but it sounds like a classic case of volunteer burn out might not be too far into the future for him.
