If it sells and you get what you want for it, maybe you can get yourself a free standing stove. less work then building a chimmney. You won't have your Mt. Vernon insert, but you would still be able to enjoy the heat from a pellet stove !
That is an outstanding idea.
Good news. The Mt. Vernon is going with me.
I got a few insulting offers via craigslist. That made the decision easy.
I'll get a fireplace built and enjoy it in my new home on the chilly (40's) winter nights in Florida. In a way, it's like bringing a piece of home with me.
Seriously doubt it. There are 3 in Georgia that I contacted and they all said every pellet goes to Europe and they don't bother selling in the US. They just use our trees!I think it would be difficult. However, there is a pellet mill there. Maybe they sell direct.
Just got reunited with my Mt. Vernon. The movers couldn't get all of our stuff on one truck and we had to wait 6 weeks for them to put the remainder of our stuff on another truck headed down this way.
It's sitting on a pallet in my garage, shrink-wrapped until I figure out how/where I'm going to get a fireplace installed. It's only 57 here right now and they are calling for low 30's tonight and tomorrow night. So, clearly I am going to see at least some weather down here that will make the stove useful.
But, I need to find a source for pellets... TSC, Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, and the other usual places don't carry them down here.

I have a hard time getting REASONABLY priced pellets here in Ga. at the SC border.
The guy at HD didn't even know what a pellet stove was.I used to work for the HD and we could transfer product between stores explore options with them.Happy to hear that you ,family & stove are all save in FL.
Happy Holidays .
Remember this web site is like The Hotel California " you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave."
There are certainly a few of those here, I'll check into it. I did see sunflower seeds at TSC...Try and check for pellet bedding at horse feed stores. A bit more expensive but I can't believe they dont have them with Florida having a very high horse count. I have a horse friend at Melbourne if I remember I will ask her.
Trade it in for a good a/c unit with a heat pump. Fla,winter-nice, Fla summer-not so nice. Good luck to ya
Started?! Hell, those 50 bags would last you 50 years in FL!That's very discouraging...

House has dual-zone heat pumps, but the heat isn't comfortable like what the stove puts out. I had heat pumps at the old place too.
IF my father comes to visit in the summer and opts to drive as opposed to fly, I will try and talk him into hauling down a ton in the back of his 1-ton Chevy dually. At least that would get me started.
