Winter WI
It’s been some time now since I’ve been on hearth but winter will come Soon enough and it’ll slow down a bunch for me then I can just stock the stove and be on the forums more often. This summer I finally finished stacking the truckload of red oak I bought awhile back. I got 11 cords out of it so with that and some scrounge wood I think I’ll have enough wood for eternity lol. Last winter I only burned four FC In this small place even though it can get fairly cold up here in the north woods. Now I’m working on S/S some scrounge white ash and elm. The ash is real nice but it isn’t as dry as some say right away, I’m getting 36-40% MC from the 6 month old rounds I’m splitting. The elm is Just ok, some of it’s a bit punky and some is fine. Some of it, even small 6-8" rounds has stopped my newer 37 ton splitter and opened the bypass valve on it. I get through it by turning the round of course but it creaks and huffs and puffs through it. And no Ashful, I never did the cylinder swap,on the splitter to Speed ‘er up But it would be nice to do if I ever get another truckload of wood lol.

Nice work @WiscWoody , how far ahead are you on the firewood supply?

I think I’m about five years ahead now. I used to heat a much bigger house but now I only heat 880 sq ft and a Insulation program here in Wisconsin blew more insulation in the attic. They said there was only six inches in it before. It’s a 70’s house so I suppose. This winter coming up will be my third winter here.

nice to see you kicking out some wood..what stove are you running woody
My first stove was a Drolet In the house I sold a few years ago and it worked good so I went with another one here in the new place, a 2.4CF model. It’s not fancy fancy and it cost me just $700 after a Menards in-store rebate.
