Fair Price for rounds

Finally had a second to take a pic of the wood. Any idea what it is?

Looks like a pile of yard waste to me. The local yard waste site in my county charges $10/cubic yard to get rid of it, and $40/yard for anything over 24" in diameter. That's with you loading it up, hauling it to them, and unloading it.

I wouldn't go near it. Most people way overestimate the quantity and value of a pile of rounds. Hard to tell but you might have a face cord there. In some places that might be worth $10-$20 if it's good wood. Who knows your neighbor might think its worth $100 and your just gonna piss him off.

CT resident here as well. Your paying for wood? There are endless free scrounges from CLP and the DOT alone left right on the side of the road. CLP is doing trimming in Orange (right down the road from Milford) on Racebrook Rd right now leaving cut rounds right on the side of the road.

I have had no trouble getting huge amounts of free wood. Call around to some tree service companies. I am on a few lists to get free rounds delivered. PM me for some contacts.

I would think 25 is a fair price. Give him a call and see what he says. It may be funny expensive....... free is always best. If its 50 then ask him to split it for that price, no reason not to ask for kicks and giggles.

I drove by today and he's splitting it all. So far looks like a cord split and probably 2 more to go. What's it worth now?

If it's awhole cord of good stuff and he is a nice guy and a friend , give him 25 bucks and have lunch with the guy. That is being pretty nice. My dad, BIL brother and dad, never paid a dime for our wood. Sometime I wonder if it worth it for free. Said it before here. I got 10k in my boiler with 5 seasons in. In one more year I might have it payed for.. If I put 10k in the bank 5 yrs ago I still wouldn't be out of money. Then the time, driving to get wood, stack, split, stack again in the shed, head out @ 9 pm -20 F, three times a day to fill the boiler. I love burning wood , and will pay for itself but it sure is a lot of work to say 1,500 bucks a year,,, maybe.

That pile you posted a pic of doesnt look like 3 cords to me...

If it truly is 3 cords split, pay the going price in your area. Around here its 150 a cord. It may be easier for you to just ask the guy what he wants for it than ask us

I know what it is, Free wood.

I know smart @z& answer. The only wood I have bought so far is $12 a cord for tops and you get to take what you want, I got ash, oak and hickory. I will go back for much more as he lets me pay for it after it is CSS so no doubt how much is there. Look for a neighbor who is having his land forested and offer to give him something for the mess the guys left on the ground. I got really nice stuff.

Well, I broke my rule about not paying for rounds. I paid 10 bucks for this load, which the guy turned around and gave to his kid for helping to load it up.
