I have my coffee and stare at the wood pile. So nice to have oak stacked and drying for a few years. I get to look at it every morning. It’s all hand chopped and feels like a testament to the joy of work. This pile will remain uncovered, and gets enough breeze and sun to dry naturally. Just love looking at it every day.

I don't even have a picture of all our firewood...........yet. We should have around 56 to 58 face cord of hardwood in the inventory but I'll get an exact count this week. We have another 12 face cord of pine for the shoulder season wood.

This is the firewood we had for our first year burning wood, the stacks were on the wrong side of the house along with facing the north and not the west. We had just over 14 face cord in our wood inventory back then.

oh, by the way, regarding eye candy (though not wood but brass) that wind chime there on the left post is about 100 years old handmade by an uncle of my grandfather back in Europe.
A bit heavy so only sounding when the wind blows hard, and not at very high volume (I need to get better wires that dampen the vibrations less).
Apart from one broken weld of the ornamental stuff attached to the mount, it's in perfect shape. (I'm hesitant to let someone here fix that, for fear of them messing it up more).

You worked for it, now it’s working for you. I’d feel good about that too.

I like to look at my axes and mauls in my shed as I'm pulling out the splitter. Reminds of when I was younger, not injured, and had way more free time. Then I process all my wood in 10% of the time and get back to parenting/working etc!

I like walking past my neighbor's garage and look in seeing him with his ear muffs on trying to replace his hydrolic fluid without spilling it all over again. Then cussing trying to start it. Bad gas gunked up the carb again. "F in pos" as he kicks it and bangs up his toe.

Meanwhile his dusty maul sits quietly in the corner.

I totaled up what we have for firewood c/s/s, we have 6 areas for hardwood. Area # 1 has 8 f/c, area # 2 holds 12 but we have 11 f/c after bringing down 1 f/c to a neighbor, area # 3 has 10, area # 4 has 12, area # 5 has 7.75 and area # 6 has 12 for a total of 60.75.

We have 2 areas for our shoulder season wood, they both hold 6 face cord, we have 12 c/s/s. We have a pellet stove, I'm not sure on how many bags we burned last heating season but it saved us some good hardwood. This is the first year we didn't buy any pellets, I think we have 9 or 10 bags left, we'll be running the furnace when needed.

We'll get back to burning 6 face cord of shoulder season wood per year, usually 4 in the fall and the other 2 in the spring.

In picture 4909, I've been leaving everything long since the bees were in there, once they're done for the year, all that will come down.

You people are ready and now it is time to take a break and get ready for the holidays. Your wood piles are "eye candy" and beautiful to see the different assortments and placements of them. Now wl afraid of a few bees and it reminds me of years ago when I took a zoology course and my emphasis for the paper that I did was on "wasps"..---got to actually like watching them for I had one nest on the top of my screen door and dared "anyone" to hurt it. We all are a little bit crazy--lol lol. When you are around "stinging things" do not swat---just walk away and that's my advice for this day... Now if you happen to hit a nest or something---run immediately to your house and close the door for they might "circle" that house for a bit...this learning comes from years ago and the knowledge might be updated today...Everyone just keep plugging for your winning the labor battles but be real safe and careful and don't "overdo it"---be safe with no pulled muscles...clancey

The reason for leaving everything standing is that bees' are good for the environment, we have a few more areas like that when I first moved here, I would mow but not anymore.

How far from your area is the snow that is coming?

Now that's "eye candy". How in the world do you people stack them so high and so neat as well. At one time when I stacked mine in my small wood shed--it sure did not look like that and most of these pictures are so "neat".. If I get brave maybe I will light my wood burning stove with store bought wood--I have about 20 boxes and last year I said the same thing but have not made up my mind as of yet. My stove is a J.A Roby with two warming burners on top and I actually made coffee and heated some soup a few years back and the heat was just wonderful and so very warming and actually it warmed the other rooms in my house as well because I have "french doors" that open up into the main stream of things. I bought it just for a emergency in case things turn grim. I have a very small house with one bedroom and as far as the stove is concerned "I love it"..I used it about 6 times. Maybe this year....clancey

I've put some songs up, I'm not sure if you'll like them but check them out. I heard the report of colder weather and snow this morning while having coffee, I'm not even sure what part of Colorado it was for.
