Rich, if you lift some splits are 4 years old vs. 1 or 2 years old, there is very little difference if any. I have never weighed it to find out exact (but you'd have to weigh some each year and keep track of which split you weigh), but it might be interesting.

One thing I do notice for sure, and would be maybe easier to keep track of, is shrinkage. The wood I cut last winter, over the summer the height of the piles shrank a little over 6" in height. Perhaps I will keep track of some of those stacks and compare them in future years.
