I have an Hearthstone Equinox 8000 stove. Every couple of years I seem to need a new baffle. I ordered a new one, but wondering if I could cut a piece of stainless steel the exact dimensions and use that instead? Can I run the stove without a baffle while I wait for a new one?

I wouldn’t run it without a baffle, it would just send all the heat up the flue and be a dirtier burn.

Do you happen to know if it is possible to use stainless steel as a baffle as opposed to the typical material that is used for a baffle? I have a leftover piece stainless steel from a food cart I once built.

Maybe as something temporary? Probably depends on how thick it is, lots of heat up there, probably sag over time unless it is braced well. Also would need some kind of insulation on top.

You may be able to get some ideas from some of the old Fisher stove forums. They have some threads on homemade baffles with fire bricks.
