Envoiro M55 blower defect

Thanks flynfrfun! Please do! It sounds like Enviro might actually be working on a fix. My old style blower works fine (knock on pellets!) and I have burned 2.5 tons. Thanks, Bill

Where did you hear that? I need to email them and complain too. The M55 is in competition with the Mt Vernon and the Mt Vernon has the M55 beat on the noise front which is what a lot of people base their decision on. I would have probably went with a Mt Vernon if the M55 was as noisy as it is now when I was looking. But the old blower was nearly silent.

I was thinking the same thing, the Mt Vernon was my other choice, I ultimately decided on the Enviro partly because of the surround(fits perfect). The sound was not an issue when I was shopping, but I guarantee you that the display Enviro unit has the old blower in it! I also did complain on the 2/25/2012(still no reply) about the noise and the parts delay. Does anyone know when Enviro started realizing that these old failing motors were not good enough to last? And why wouldn't they stop the shipments of these units and retrofit them so they wouldn't have this many complaints? Bad business to knowingly sell a product knowing that it would fail!

I believe it was J-takeman that posted about using a sealant to isolate the motor. Is it the motor making all the noise or is it actual airflow? I had a guy PM me about changes they are making to the new motors and noise level. I would guess that Enviro is not entirely happy with the new blowers yet either. Hopefully they will get something worked out in the very near future

Flynfrfun, this was my referance to Enviro possibly getting a handle on this problem. I wouldn't email them, I would call. Maybe we should all post our Enviro distributor phone numbers.....Bill

I think I'm having an issue with my blower, but not 100% sure.......

Stove started running late last night before bed and everything seemed fine, but woke up this morning to a cool house and the stove appeared to be in shut down mode. I thought it ran out of pellets, but it didn't and then I noticed the heat level #4 red blink. I've never had the high temp. shut off issue, but 2 weeks ago the stove started one evening (it's connected to a t-stat) and after it had started and ran for a while I noticed a bad burning smell (like the paint burning smell with the first burn). I walked over to the stove which was extremely hot and noticed it wasn't blowing any hot air. At that point I unplugged it, waited a few seconds and plugged back in. The blower came on, started blowing hot air, cooled the stove back down and all was normal.

Today, for some reason, I thought it was the auger (wasn't feeding any pellets). So, I pulled the stove out of the fireplace and started troubleshooting. Emptied the hopper, cleaned everything, checked the vacuum hoses, checked the fuses, disconnected the auger motor and jumped it. Auger is working fine. Put it back together and pushed it back in place with the same results. Before I did so, I spun the convection blower by hand and it seemed pretty tight. Not moving freely at all. But again, it really didn't dawn on me that it might be this, but then I got to thinking that maybe the blower shut off sometime early this morning, caused it to trip the high limit switch and shut it down.

So that leads me to my question, which is where is the high limit sensor reset and do you think I'm heading down the right path? I haven't called my dealer yet (he is a friend who gave me a great deal, but unfortunately no longer in business and I did the install myself), so I'm hoping someone hear can point me in the right direction.

I haven't posted in a while, so if it doesn't show up in the signature, my stove is an Enviro M55 Cast Insert.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The reset button is under the control panel. You should have a little button inside the hopper right next to the control panel. You can pop it out and then push the reset button. I had the same problem with my blower. It has been replaced twice and my dealer has ordered me a third because this one is starting to rattle. If your blower won't start check the fuses. I had one that didn't look blown but I changed it and it started working again. Good luck

Thanks.....that was easy! One small issued solved....stove now dropping pellets and firing, although expect I'll be changing out the blower too, because I don't think it's working and it's not spinning "freely" by hand.

Sounds like you have the old blower? If so, I had this happen once on my insert and it made me lose trust in the stove. Without the blower running, the stove will overheat. Anyways, the blower should spin very free. You can "bandaid" fix it by removing it from the stove, then removing the squirrel cage from the housing and fill the bushing on the end opposite the motor with motor oil. Then lube the motor's bearings with lightweight oil like WD-40 or 3 in 1 oil. This will fix it for a while, but it will very likely happen again. Sounds like you need to get the new turbo blower. The old blower's motor gets extremely hot while it's running. I shut down my stove and pulled it out because the blower was sqealing. The blower motor was so hot it burned me when I touched it. The new blower runs cool. I wonder if the old blower's motor was undersized for it's application and that's why it got so hot.

I do have the old blower. From what i've read here the turbo blower scares me. My stove is six feet from my tv and right now noise is no issue at all. I'm still waiting to see what blower shows up.

Yes, it's the original "old" blower. I installed the stove at the beginning of November 2010. This is the first time I've had any trouble with it at all. I'm not even going to mess around with trying to "fix" this one. As I read the warranty, the blower is covered and I'll request the upgraded one.

My new upgraded blower arrived yesterday. I still need to install it but when I do I am going to open up the auger cover more. I should be able to get more heat out of the stove without overheating. I got my new blower installed I don't mind the fan noise but are you guys hearing a low hum? If so is there any way to kill it? Or is it coming directly from the new fans motor?

I had a brainstorm last night about the new blower's noise. It might be coming from the holes in the black end of the motor. I'm going to tape them up and see if that stops the "hum" or "whine" some of us hear. The reason I thought of this is because ladders stored on top of work trucks will "whistle, hum, whine" etc. because of the holes from the rungs. The solution is to block the holes. It's possible the holes in the end of the motor are causing this noise on our M55s.

The tape helped a tiny bit, but not enough to be worth doing. Next, I plan on sliding a couple of o-rings of the correct size over the squirrel cage. Another one my ideas is that the fins are vibrating at a very high frequency. The o-rings would stop the vibration. Or maybe they would interrupt the airflow enough to stop the noise if it's an airflow noise. Just something to play with.

We have a M55 Multi Fuel stove that we burn as a demo here in our store, We have burned about 1-2 tons in it in about 4 weeks with no problems.
