I am having a recurring E-1 shutdown. See below the facts, any help will be appreciated.
1. This is my third year using the unit, I use approximately 20 bags per year. During the first two years I had no problems or E-1 codes, although I do specifically remember my last burn last spring (March 2008) I did get an E-1 code. During my first startup this year (Nov 2008) I got an E-1 code. I have since tried the unit 4 more times and each time have gotten an E-1 code
2. The unit fires well, I have a good strong flame throughout start up. The unit leaves SU mode and runs in burn mode for approximately 5 minutes before the E-1 code and shutdown. While in burn mode, I have a good strong flame.
3. Prior to my first burn this year I cleaned out stove pipes, removed the baffle and cleaned the heat exchanger. I thoroughly cleaned the fuel burn pot. I replaced the baffle plate and am positive it is secure and flame is not getting behind the plate. I have double and triple checked the baffle plate to be sure it is sealed well against the back of the unit.
4. I have a good outside air source.
5. My unit is vented into an existing 8 inch masonry flue. I have a 18 inch horizontal run into the flue with an 18 inch elbow inside the flue for upward draft. I have a custom made collar at the flue thimble that accepts the 3 inch stove pipe, I seal around the stove pipe at the collar with furnace cement. I had no issues with this installation in 2006 as my first E-1 code occurred after approximately the 40th burn of the stove.
6. When I cleaned the unit this fall, I did not remove and clean any of the exhaust fans. I did open the back of the unit and clean any dust inside the unit. There was a very very small amount of dust inside the unit.
Any suggestions, possible parts replacements, or diagnostic tests I can run to find the problem will be appreciated.
