they made the exhaust square so you could pick what ever size adapter they have to fit your chimney

Bingo, key word is THEY, just another revenue stream for them, buy our stove and ohh yea, you have to buy our adapter to.

Actually probably more a case of making it available for folks that have six inch flues as well as all of those people with older cat stoves that have eight inch flues for them. And since they didn't have to change the design of the stove they probably saved the cost of going back through the EPA certification mill. Personally I applaud the approach.

Nice to see they say you can go from the 8" connector to 6" pipe for the insert.

Is it just me or does the overall design just look old? I mean come on, why the rectangle exhaust, that is sooo 80's.

Wish I would of checked here before getting my 8" liner installed last week for my EK. I would of went with a 6" instead and saved some money and been ready in the future for a new insert.. Just my luck

Well, with the 8" liner you won't have to worry about any smoke back fill into the room when you open the door, I have learned a lot since 2009 when this was originally talked about, the exhaust is sized to the door opening.

I have gone through 2 other inserts since this thread was created, I actually just went with a simular style stove to the EK (but black) that has an 8" exhaust but allows for you to downsize to 6" which is what I did. Works good so far.

I think that EK will be around for quite some time, I wouldn't worry to much about installing that 8" liner.

Thanks for the incite form a seasoned pro! We are looking forward many more warm Winters from the EK probably will have to replace the CATs next fall.. All in all its a great insert..

I burned a Energy King Wood Furnace for 14 years. Great wood furnace quality made.

Ahh ok, good for you for installing a liner, you should see a difference in how the stove performs, for the good. Not to mention it will be a breeze to sweep the chimney now.

Try cleaning your cat before replacing it, sometimes doing the boiling it in water trick brings them back to life for a few more years. (remove the catalyst at least every two years and soak it in diluted (50/50) vinegar for 30 minutes, followed by two 15-minute rinses in boiling water (unless specified otherwise by the manufacturer). Replace the gasket after this cleaning operation. Check with you catalyst manufacturer for more details.)

Thanks for the CAT advice mine are starting to crumble slightly so I will use you advice on the new ones. Your thread on the insulation is interesting. If I ever have to pull the insert out I will be installing the insulation..
