Leaving the bark on it was the problem. I've had many Elm standing dead with the bark off of it and it was fine. Bark is left on or doesn't come off on its own then problems. Kevin
You might consider it a blessing. In my experience dried elm does not split less miserably than green elm.

thats why i keep a hatchet and a splitting stump near the splitter...Gotta love it! And that's one medium size round, probably been run through the splitter about 6 times and it's STILL all attached!!

Some of us keep saying you have to wait till it's good and cold out to bust this stuff up.It splits very nicely when it's cold out.Gotta love it! And that's one medium size round, probably been run through the splitter about 6 times and it's STILL all attached!!
