Howe can it be long dead oak but still have bark and be under 20%?

You guy's suck! I just got some barkless punkless oak That I am told came down in the ice storm 2 yrs ago. It was a 20 inch leader downed and mostly off the ground. I think it's more than 2 yrs old tho. Oh ya, why you suck. I had to know what the mc was after reading this thread. So I went out in the rainy darkness to grab a 20 inch round and split it. So I could bring it in and stick it with the meter. Got all wet, 1 whack with the fiskers and it popped in 1/2, another to 1/4. Grabbed the split headed to the basement. On the way tripped on a rogue round, stubbing my toe, falling down into the wet grass, with a giant dog CRAP Any way, The mc was 20% on a rd cut 5 hrs ago, it is in the fire now, ignited like a popcorn fart in hell.

I live in an area that was hit many years ago by some Oak tree killing disease. The woods around my house are littered with all the dead, dry Oak I could ever gather. The disease didn't kill them all, but there sure are a lot of 6" to 10" diameter, dead, standing and downed trees. All of it bark-less and dry! My HF meter shows 8 to 18%.


This was a few hours work. most everything there is 48" long. There are a few 16" and 32" in there too.

Nice covered stack you have in the background. I came up with the same idea to stack along mt fence line.

If you had split it, maybe it could have been 10%-15% mc, 25%-50% drier. That has got to be significantly higher BTU content. Get yourself a flash light.
