Looking for some experts here.. At work we have a glass and alum frame entrance door, when the door was installed it opens the wrong way so if the wind is blowing it does not close. We have changed the door opener 3 times in the last 6 years by a company that does this work and it never gets better. I had a company come in and take a quick look and they said that opener is the wrong one for this door and it will never work and the one we need runs about $1000... ouch.. Did some looking on amazon and came up with 2 options so far. I like the first 2 because the adjustment screws are on the face or bottom, with the screws on the end they are hard to adjust in our opening. All 3 state to have adjustable spring tension and im hoping that it will be enough to pull the door closed a little better.

Is there a reason why the door can’t be replaced ? It seems like the long term solution and less expensive than a new opener every 2 years.

My guess is you are using residential/commercial closers. The quote you got is likely for an industrial/correctional setting closer. My supervisor would order them 50 at a time and if memory serves they were around $500/unit. I can’t remember the name/brand but there was no comparison between commercial and correctional closers. This was at a correctional facility where the doors had to close and latch every time. Doors were about 200 pounds. Your door won’t be 200 pounds but with a stiff wind blowing on it…

Have you priced out a new door and installation in a commercial building I would be looking at no less than 5g minimum. Get the proper closer and we will be done with it instead of these low grade units the professionals are installing and calling it good.

Thanks for the info did a quick google and seems to not be alot out their that are classified as a correctional closer. With the links i posted above they tension is adjustable from 1-6 depending on the weight of the door so my hopes were that i could increase that weight tension and get this door to close

I reached out to a coworker from back in the day and he’s fairly confident that the above link was the company that we used. You want probably commercial/industrial grade. He did ask me if you increased the power valve? Increasing the power valve would also make opening the door harder so it would be a compromise.

No have not adjusted the power, this one needs some sort of special tool that i do not have. Im sure it has backed out as the cap is quite loose.

That sucks. The link I posted has the special tool included in the mounting hardware bag. If memory serves I think it is an Allen key but different manufacturers probably use different tools for adjustments. If you still have the original mounting hardware bag it might be in with the unused mounting hardware. You might get lucky and a speciality tool supplier might have it in stock? Good luck

Easier to swap this unit out.. Even those ones i found on amazon have to be better than this $50 pc of crap the professionals keep installing.

Can’t imagine you’re getting quality for $50. Disappointing that “professionals” aren’t using quality door closers or at least products that would suit your application. That’s why you call professionals?

When I go to Home Depot I see a lot of “Pros” buying the same thing you can.

You can buy better quality, but in general, how much more do you want to pay?

i just want a door that closes and does not get pulled open when the wind blows right and sucks all the heat out of the building in the middle of winter..LOL
