Actually at the time I started researching everything about pellet stoves I was also looking into pellet mills. I work in a factory that produces office furniture with alot of sawdust & scrap wood I contacted companies in (sorry to say it) China about pricing & shipping. The company I work for has a company in China so i have thought about seeing if they could ship it here for me since the company is in the city the pellet mill company ships out of. I got the ok to take home any scrap sawdust i wanted. My only concern was the use of "mdf". That, I also looked into & the msds sheet says the binder in the wood is some type of formaldehyde but its under 1%. I'm just scared to spend the money on something that's not going to work & produce something that's not going to burn well. I just found out about a pellet mill about 40 miles away & would like to visit them & see what they use for pellets. If i could see the meterial I have available produce good pellets I would jump on the machine & make my own out in the garage.

Hmmm. Interesting! Your farther along that I originally thought!

I also have a fiber source. But don't have the scratch for a mill. The mills I see that are almost affordable are china made. Still looking for an affordable mill of better quality. But this is of topic. We'll have to start a thread one day when you get your mill or just to discuss details.

I think you can leave out the newbie(in training)! Don't forget to update you sig and again Welcome aboard!

Yes, sounds good we can compare notes on pellet mills. The ones i looked into seemed pretty decent and much cheaper priced than anything in the US. I have seen posts on people talking about making their own here but not seen anything come of it. Evan talks about people using same material as a I have available which got me excited. wish someone with some $ would step up & purchase 1 to let us know how it works.

Here's some eye candy. I wanna be a pellet pig!! 6 tons Spruce Pointe, 1 ton NEWP, 1 ton Old Dominion in the basement. Have to say, I bought the Old Dominion as a shoulder season pellet, but VERY pleased. Pellets are very small and uniform, very good heat, little ash.

Wahoo, than ks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello gentleman:

Though I just registered yesterday I have been a regular reader at the site for over 4 years. Used the wisdom
and guidance in stove purchase and setup, pellet evaluations (As always thanks to Jay for his countless hours and
due diligence) and in cleaning methodology(Leaf blower) and maintenance.

In setting up my signature I realized I may qualify for the prestiged "Pellet Pig" moniker and club, and prematurely
added your esteemed title to my sig without officially stopping here for your blessing. I've not burned or stocked less than 4 tons
since the first season. I just purchased 6 tons to be delivered to my basement next Saturday, and after my phenomenal
experience with 16 bags of Okies at the end of last season(bought at BJ's Saratoga which currently have no pellets), if I find Okies locally
anytime in the near future I'll prolly buy 2 tons IF they are reasonable.

You guys will get a kick out of this: the 16 bags I bought at BJ's were wrapped as leftovers on a pallet with no price, after hammering the manager a little I got em for $3.87 per bag:)

Anyways, thanks in advance my brothers in Pelletdom !

Randi

PS: I 'll post up a pic of my stash after it's delivered Saturday.

I like pellet swami, Hmmm maybe my new handle??? :cheese:

You will fit in nicely.

Lets face it Jay,

Who has contributed more to the education of the pellet burning community in regards
to pellets overall? I'm not trying to kiss butt here, but I'll admit to reading your evaluations thoroughly before
buying my first bag of pellets and every year since. I thinks 1000's of readers have benefitted from your due diligence
over the years and saved them alot of heartache in the "hit or miss" trial and error of what works and what doesn't, whats
hot and whats not.

I admit buying the lesser Intant Heats for the beginning and end of the season, but the Big E and USStove 2400 window unit love them. After reading your update on Okies and trying them at the end of last season, I was convinced that the high output was best for the coldest periods. Because I couldn't locate them yet, I bought Bare Foots as my local Agway dealer(Hoosic Valley Farmers Exchange) carries them along with the Intant Heats and delivers them right to my basement. Not the cheapest but with my job as Trans Director at our school District my hours are somewhat limited at home weeknights and weekends(not to mention being beat) so I pay for the convenience.

I was able to drop the heat range from 3 to 2 on the Big E and was getting the same if not a little more heat while using less pellets.

I might add who else in the pellet world has produced as an extensive list of the major brands out there with results, expansive and accurate enough that a major manufacturer has included your results in a lengthy online brochure??

That would be you o' Pellet Swami....and BTW, I believe the handle fits perfectly and is well deserved.

Randi :)

Burp! I am thirsty.. Never a shortage of pellets. But the other supply of, er, um, necessities are dwindling a little. Could use some restocking.

Hic-up.... Mmmmmm.

Was sent over from the FIRE GOD himself...Thank you sir.

Sooo.. I guess i'm in the club now, picked up a ton of AWF at TSC today. I burned a bag last weekend and they have been the hottest burning stuff so far. I may go back for another before they are all gone. :)

This brings my total to 3.5 tons.

I guess my avatar is fitting now. :)

Well, I have been stockpiling for a while, but never threw my hat in the ring:

(broken image removed)

What you see is 2 tons MWP and 5.5 tons of Vermonts. The Okies and the rest of the VTs are at my feet and the other 2 tons of MWP are actually hoarded underneath the stairs behind my tool box out of frame to the right!!

I can also neither confirm or deny that there are 2 still wrapped pallets of VTs in my Dad's equipment shed that the wife doesn't exactly "know about." They aren't on my property, so I'm not claiming them yet....

I also want to draw your attention, above the stack of MWP, to the UPS, surge protector and stealthy power wire for the P68 all on a dedicated circuit that can not be unplugged 'accidentally' or out of 'curiosity' by the wife, neighbor's kids or "the dog."
