Question:

I recently purchased a set of gas logs. Do I need a screen in front of my pre-fab fireplace while using the logs?

Answer:

The screen is a requirement- not because of sparks- but to keep kids- dogs- newspaper- etc away from the fire. The same is actually required of an open fireplace. You could use a bowed screen that fits in front...about $70. ...Funny- all pre-fabs I've seen have a screen included as standard.
