I will attach pictures. I have the PDF of the manual. I'm wondering if anyone has installed or is aware of a really good install video online. I'm also open to being told this is a really bad idea if there is something I haven't thought through.

Thanks in advance!

Different installations have different requirements. Also, different manufaturers of the flue system parts have different directions. One downside of a stove like this is that it requires more expensive 8" piping. Most modern stove now use 6" flues.

For some understanding of installation steps and requirements, look at the flue system company's documents. Here's an example:

Rockford chimney also has some installation articles and videos.

If the stove is not cracked, and is otherwise functional, it could be fine technically. But the 8" flue means you invest into 8" pipe, and that means you are severely limiting your options to replace this stove later on (or have to shell out a lot of money for new 6" pipe then).

They were also made in 7", so verify before you order chimney...

Good to check though the label on the rear of the stove says 8" vent.
I take it the grate is an add-on and should be removed?

Yes...and that baffle in 6 of9 was not OEM!

I guess it may have run on a flue that was too short, and this baffle was the way to lessen smoke roll out :-)

Stoveliker is correct. But to have had smoke spillage with that stove, something was off in the install. 90 Elbow on flue collar, short stack, dumped into masonry fireplace chimney too small etc.

I'll wager past owner had some burn marks from bumping that during hot reloads.....
