Hello, Looking for some help! I have a VD Defiant Encore 2190. The Damper and upper fireback need to be replaced due to warping and the bolts being broken off in the old parts. Ive tried 3 places to order replacements and am told they are no longer making the replacement damper assesmbly. Does anyone know if the assembly for the Defiant Encore 2550 will fit my 2190? They look basically identical. If I cant make this one work Im not sure what to do. Thanks!

Did you try Woodman's?
Ive looked into their products. Problem is they dont have the pre drilled and tapped holes. Thats a concern for me. Tapping cast iron isnt the easist thing to do.

The upper fireback is also not available right now from what they say.

Tapping cast iron is not hard. It's easy to drill with a good hard bit and a drop of oil. The main thing is to use a bottoming tap and to use a drill stop for holes that don't go all the way through.

Interesting. I tried first to retap the old parts and I couldnt get my bottoming taps to work. Drilling was fine. The tapping just didnt seem to work.

It requires a little patience and the right tap hole size. It also needs the hole cleaned out frequently as one goes along because there's no place for the shavings to fall out of. So tap in a few threads, back out, clean, reoil, tap in a little further. Repeat as necessary.
