About the same here as at tarzan's temperature wise.. princess is cruizin on 1 to 1.5.. giving me about 15hr burns on some unknown softwood.. house at 74 main level, and 78 upper level.. LOVE IT!

I just watched a report on the cold weather on the NBC Nightly News. It looks cold all over! And they showed a town just north of us here, Ashland WI saying that Lake Superior is already starting to freeze.

Here in East Tennessee we have a light dusting of snow. It's going down to 14 tonight. Today they call particularly cold weather the Polar Vortex effect. We used to call it Winter!

Still breaking in the Quadrafire 7100. The mason will seal it up on Wednesday and mount the controls, I hope. Blower not hooked up yet. So far the unit is very easy to start. Have been using Eco bricks for the break in fires.

Calling for a low of 12 degrees tonight with a wind chill of -4 degrees. Tomorrow our high temp will be a balmy 22 degrees with wind gusts to 25 mph. It's 72 degrees inside ! So glad I have a woodstove!

Not only are our outside temps the same but our inside temps and stoves match!

Well, maybe I don't have an upper level but the one I have is at 74

Lows of 19* and 23* the last couple of nights. Went from a fire in the evening that kept the house warm till the next evening to burning full-time. The stove hasn't missed a beat. Just cruising it has kept the house toasty warm. Too bad it doesn't get cold enough, even last year down to 1* to really put this stove to a real test. For now just enjoying the heat.

Yeah yeah, hit SE Pennsylvania last night. No temps this week higher than low 40's with lows into the teens and 20's and lots of cold, hard rain and some snow. Nice to be able to work from home in such unsavory conditions.

Had a lot of upheaval this year, family-wise, plus some mechanical challenges on the wood splitter. Have not been able to split anywhere near the amount of rounds sitting out back. Going at it hot and heavy with the maul before I got the splitter "back online". Can't just do nothing when October rolls around.

Unseasoned wood solution? Do tree work on dead trees that have been "seasoning" on their own. Thanks be to God, the Universe does ALWAYS seem to provide for my winter lifestyle. Have three trees that will burn, two of which are already down. The third is my own, crown already felled, standing like a 30' totem out front. (ain't seen no cash from that job!) Wood heat from the old Intrepid does have it's own value, though for sure.

Hey hey, in case you don't know, learned a SPECTACULAR tip from YouTube when splitting with a maul - use an old TIRE on your chopping block to keep logs in place for striking, and so no chasing/picking up splits to re-split. This is one of the greatest tricks and I wish I had thought of it!

LOL They definately still have that reputation but I think things may be getting a little out of hand.

I live just north of Beckley. If I had made it to college it would have been around 1988. At that time I surely would have done my part to hold that #1 ranking!

Love the 362 other than its fuel consumption.

But anyway, woke up to a 68 degree house at 5:30am.. 13 degrees outside.. still a quarter load left from 9pm and a lot of coals.. schweeet!

Hehheh . . . my wife once had a patient from The County who said there were only three things to do in the winter up there. Drink while ice fishing, Snowmobile or make babies . . . he said he didn't drink or sled . . . which was his explanation of why he had something like 8 or 9 children.

I loaded the stove last night at 9 PM. Woke up at 5:00am to indoor temp of 73. Outside, it was between 11*F and 15 depending on what weatherman you believe.

Reloaded this morning at 8:00. Could have easily went another hour or more but I needed to get it done.

Teens here and terrible wind (I work outside year any wind in winter sucks) the house is 75 with the old buck purring right along love wood heat. Split a cord of standing dead red oak and ash for next year today kept me warm.

Spent the day at that new sand plant, southwest of Barron. Not sure if Freakin Cold is actually an official meteorological term, but the temp was hovering just below that. Five degrees F, with a wind chill of 5-15 below, depending.


My reward was to come home, and sit in front of ...


Thinkin of an evening in front of an actual fire, sitting with my lovely bride, pretty much kept me in a good mood, all day. It really annoyed my partner. So, added bonus!
