Cursive Writing a Thing of the Past?

My Daughter's in 3d grade and they've stopped teaching cursive as well as spelling!

How will they learn the difference between their, there, and they're? Watching this and other forums, it seems many who were (where, we're) taught didn't learn.

Daddy (Lit. major) will be teaching her.
 
About half of the schools here have stopped teaching it. They'll teach them to sign their name, but that's it. We're still teaching our kids though.

Even if they never write a single word in cursive, they still need to know how to read it.
 
For me...typing = 60 words per minute
cursive = 20 completely illegible scribbles that only I can decode.
