Curran wood pellets: Not many posts about them

Frank -You are correct we did start selling pellets last week to a broker who then sold them to Lowe's, however we do not truck any of these pellets. I am not sure where our truck was going when you seen it on Rt. #49 but it was not Meneillys.

Bought 5 bags of the curran blend and they burn really hot! I was happy to find these. the lowes in leominster, Ma. had them.....going to get more today if theres any left.

I tried them earlier in the season and iirc, they were ok. In the "average" category I think. (I've tried a lot this season. It is getting hard to remember. I'd better start writing things down!) For $3.84/bag I think I'd buy them again.

Too bad the don't have the Curran's in Leominster any more. I'd like to add them to my "tried 'em" list.

Good to see you on here Brian. It is smart for Manufacturer's to keep a watch on what people are talking about. Most people I know that have burned the soft wood Curran's liked them over the blended type and said the softwoods put out some good heat. Franks I am not sure if you are linked to the gas station or not but I dump over $100 a week filling up the diesel I think you see me coming and raise the price.

Hey Brian - any chance your company will begin packaging pellets in a recylable bag?

We've been purchasing Curran pellets since December - paying $235/ton. Been really happy with this brand.

Our bags are recyclable. I am not sure which bag you are purchasing, but we have recently converted all of our bags to mostly clear with some print on them. We want the consumer to be able to see the quality, how clean and fine free the pellets are. The newer bags have the recyclable triangle on the bag with the number 4 in it. Hopes this helps!

She must be burning the white bag blends. I don't see the triangle on the bag with the number 4 in it. But I do see it on the new clear bags on the softwoo and hardwood.

Thanks Jay, I thought maybe she was burning the softwood and we did bag some softwood in a clear bag with some simple black Curran Renewable Energy lettering on the bag and nothing else. I really like your comment about the big box stores, it is so true. Lack of expertise and knowledge about pellets or stoves and selling at little or no profit. The stove shops can not survive doing this.

Yes, we get you on the Diesel, but that hurts less than Rocco coming to visit now doesnt it.

I know you go thru some diesel with us. We appreciate your business. Charge more for your pellets!

So am burning the Curran Blend now - on the 4th bag. I like the lack of fines - definitely rings true from what I have seen. Am trying as many brands this winter as possible, and comparing to a few tons of Lignetics WV and Tree Cycle as my bookends. True to form, I think that they fall right in between the Ligs and TC for ash just as Curran's site claims - about .5% ash. What I noticed though was that my glass isn't sooting as quickly with these vs. other brands.

I got mine at Lowes ($4.18 each) and would definitely take them over the Infernos that were also there. Overall I would rate them acceptable plus; not a rock star but a lot better than most of the brands in the big box I have seen.

I purchased 5 bags of the blend a few days ago. I burned them already. They burn really hot. I was very impressed with the heat. My flame was definately a whitish/orangey color.
There was hardly any fines in the bags(which were white). The pellets looked just like the Rocky Mountain Pellets. Darkish color.
The only down fall was the ash. I thought there were quite a bit of it. But it was a heavier ash. I'm not troubled by it.
I bought these at Lowes in Portland,Maine. I was quite pleased with these.
I wish Lowes would carry the Softwood pellets too. I'd like to try them.
I highly recommend these. Great heat with a lot of ash. Yeah...I'd live with it.
