Hey guys small ? Out of curiosity but have any of you guys that live or have lived around the 4 corners states/west ever burn any curl leaf mountain mahogany im askin cause i seen it pop up on a firewood post on reddit where it supposedly burns wicked good and is very dense

Here is its range. I’d rather have easy to split readily abuant pine or fir. OK and oak.

It's a slow-growing, very dense hardwood. Not actually a mahogany, it belongs in the rose family. Here is a good write up on it:

"The wood of curlleaf mountain mahogany is so hard and dense that it will not float. It provides excellent fuel, producing intense heat and burning for long periods. Because curlleaf mountain-mahogany wood burns slowly, it was the preferred charcoal wood used for smelting ores in the nineteenth century. It is also highly prized as a barbecue fuel.

The Goshute Indians of Utah made bows from this wood"
