Whoa, looks like burning 24/7 will start for me by Friday--they're calling for a strong cold front and snow on the valley floor by Friday. Wednesday, I just finished cutting, splitting and stacking some seasoned wood that I got from a nearby mill. I've only got 565 cf in the shed--if winter's starting this early, I need more. Guess I'll be heading to the mill to fill my pickup bed with more. They've got seasoned stuff that's been sitting at their yard from anywhere from 6-18 months. The oldest wood has gone completely dark silver--I may load up on all of that. This is not a good sign for my valley--this is far too early for snow on the valley floor.

Hey, to you guys who claim how cold it is but won't start a fire, don't come back later bragging how little wood you used.

Oh, it don't matter, Ken. Some folks will brag about how little wood they burned, other folks will brag about how much wood they burned, and still other folks will brag about the fact that they burned wood at all. %-P Rick

Fired up the Big Jack last night using Pine and Poplar.

I've been burning for about a week. Tonight I have the stoker and wood burner going. It's 94 degrees in the living room.

I'm glad I tried the stoker before it got too cold. One of the thermostat wires were disconnected. A gremlin must have been playing in the basement.
