Colder Temps R A Coming

Well, I would expect that on Monday when I check this site to hear folks having their first fires of the year, I know that is what I will be posting! down into the 30's at night and not getting out of the 50's with some wind over the weekend.. a nice medium fire will warm things up in the house..Nice about this time of the year is that it doesnt take much of a fire to keep the house warm.

The pine lights off in the office stove tonight and in the big boy upstairs in the morning to knock the chill off da joint.

Not only cooler temps on the way but the first real winter type storm system digging down to the Atlantic coast and then heading up to the Gulf of Maine. Could be a bit windy, a dose of rain and there may even be a wee bit of snow on the highest elevations of northern New England mountains. Despite periods of near or record breaking warmth over the last month, fall foliage is just about in full swing here in the Seacoast of NH cause the plants are smart and pay more attention to daylength than they do temperatures. Daytime temps have been a bit below normal but nighttime temps have been above normal, so we've been about average for the last week here. Next 5-7 days look a bit below normal but not much. No frost yet and none in sight. Stove will be lit probably once or twice a day for most of the future, still not cool enough to run it continuously

yeah and I am not really rushing it..I like seeing my stack of wood not having to dwindle yet..its a good feeling. But I know its coming!

It's funny, if I had to spend a large percentage of my time stocking up for each year, then I'd agree with that statement. But usually I only get to spend the late winter and spring scrounging and splitting, and then the piles are full again until winter. So I actually want my piles to shrink, to make room for more wood ASAP. I'm suffering withdrawal...

High was only 60 today, low in the 40's so I might be able to justify a fire tonight. Seems so weird considering it was a record 94 two days ago.

Used to be a Yooper but now in lower MI. Still gets chilly. Frost expected tonight; stove going nicely, thank you.

Tennessee finally got a breath of fresh cool air ! Still a severe drought though.........

50s outside tonight and may drop to mid or low 40s..........no fire yet........110 heater is doing all we need tonight........and probably for a couple of weeks.

The little heaters don't use much and is much cheaper than firing the big gas hog with 220 motor.........wood stove will come soon enough.

Lower 60's all day and 55 right now. Little Jotul in the office is doing its thing sending just enough upstairs to maintain 72 on the second floor. If it gets below 70 in this house I start hearing talk of divorce court.

Besides, I bucked out the two neighbor scrounge trees yesterday afternoon and split'em and put 3/4 of a cord on the stacks today so something was gonna burn tonight.

OK Ill fill ya in for whats here. Even in Deg F Todays High 34F low 27F We have had a low for this month of 23F and a average high of 35F. Still able to fish all the lakes. Had 3" of snow to clear off on Sunday morn. Yeah Im burning more than tooth picks Brother B. Idlin on low with some cut slabs of pine.

It wasn't to bad, [shrug] 40's...a bit damp. I'm still sleeping with the windows open cotton sheets, summer weight cotton blanket, my honey dO and 2 damn spoiled dogs.

I did light the fire late afternoon to take the dampness out of the air...I'm still trying to 'cure' a new 2400, no stinkies yet...a little snap crakle pop is about it.

[Yooper Burning]

Finally started burning yesterday. 30's at night then and now. I try not to burn too early. Wifey likes the house at 80 but it kills me! I'm happy because its been one rainy fall so far and at least the humidity is out of the house. Unfortunately now I'll have to kick in the humidifier before long....

64 degrees inside the house this morning... I formally engaged my passive solar heating regimen, which should carry me for another month before turning up the boiler.

It was 45 when I got up this morning and overcast so I decided it was time to run the spiders out of the main pipe.

yup...Well, fired her up on sat evening.. ws in the mid 30's at night, had the house up to 85 at one point, was a bit warm and didnt even fill the Olympic up 1//2 way!I must admit, so far, that locust wood that i have is impressing me..IT burns real hot and actually doesnt seem to burn as quick as I thought that it would...We will see how it goes over a longer duration..I have around 2 cord of it to burn!

We had a chilly spell last week in SW Ohio, highs in the 60's. Still no rain.

I fired up my Englander for the first time (ever), to make sure that it worked and if anything was wrong, wanted to get it taken care of before the real cold hits.

This week, we're looking at 80's again. But, maybe some rain.
