From the manual:
Wall Control calibration: The “Normal Setting†on
the Temp Dial of the Furnace Control (See Fig.44) calibrates
the Wall Control temperature span.If the Temp
Dial is not pointing to the “Normal Settingâ€, the temperature
span could vary by 3 degrees up or down depending
on the Temp Dial knob setting.

I had a guy from Harman today tell me never to loosen the set screw on the wall control knob shaft. He said if there is a difference in temp between what the dial is set at and a digital thermometer, to take the temp setting off "normal" and increase it until the temp on the digital thermometer and the wall control dial agree. WHAT!?

Does the temp dial have an affect on the level of the fire in automatic as well as service? If not in "normal", doesn't it ignore the thermostat setting?

Maybe I'm getting too deep into this thing, but I want to know how this furnace works, not just use it.

Well I really wish I could help you out but apparently all my observation has been of a furnance that was never running correctly in the first place... I finally got ahold of a Harmon dealer that has ordered a new circuit board for me. (hopefully under warrantee). So that was days off work well spent.... "sigh of under-breathed profanity"...

As soon as you mentioned the burn pot full at a 4 setting, I suspected something was awry. When you get the new board and it is running correctly, you'll probably wish you had the old board back.

This furnace just doesn't make any sense and the directions in the manual are rediculously vague.

Well I did the math, and it seems I'll be saving about 1000 bux a winter over my old heating source. I'm keeping my old circuit board. If I can get the time I am going to draw up a new board design. Mechanically speaking, I love the design of the furnance. It's simple. I think the way it operates could be improved upon. If you or anyone else has any thoughts on burn times or how it could be more efficient I would love to hear it?

When people on this forum with PF100 say they are running the furnace in "manual", do they mean the "service" position and adjusting the temp of the furnace with the temp knob that has the "normal" position on it?

....."but my words like silent rain drops fell"......

Anybody?

I think what most people think of as manual is the knob on the controll board that where the nUmber 4 would be says " normal setting". There also is all switch that says manual or automatic, but that is referring to starting the fire manually with a match v/s the igniter built into the system.

yeah, but have you heard there music, with any luck they were just deaf!! haha, ok really , i like some, alot, of their songs. The burn was just to good to pass up.

I grew up in that hay day of Simon and Garfunkel. All of it was good.

I don't have the pf100 furnace, I have the pb105 boiler which also has a manual switch on the controller which I have never used, I want the boiler to shut down after it reaches the high operating temp setting. Maybe Red or someone else that runs in manual will see this and respond to what settings they use, I know he and his son both run them on manual.

Ever get that new board put in? If so, what were the results?
