Same here. My wife and I found our small Vista can cook us out of our 1,800 sq ft Cape. We spread out our reloads unless it is single digits. Since we have a small firebox we don’t get an overnight burn so we do a cold start every morning.
My Drolet 1800 insert has a 2.4 cubic foot firebox. If I let a big ash bed build up I can hold coals for a while, but usually will be out after 8 hours.

Don't forget about these Free Pine cones. "Fire Cones". If you or a neighbor has white pines in the yard.

Luckily for me I have 7 giant white pines in my backyard. I started collecting them last year. I have a few big boxes worth. Unlucky though to deal with the pine needles and sap

I have a 1.6 and get 5-6 hours.

Same hear cold or "warm" (No coals but warm flue) start every morning. I prefer it to be a cold start with no coals left as it's much better for me to start a top down rather than trying to use minimal leftover coals that make a bottom up the only option.

I actually enjoy my morning top down cold starts. Like a game of Jinga. If my flue is cold I use a hairdryer for two minutes to reverse the draft if needed. Learned the hard way my first year.
