20 gallons of fuel, between the saw and splitter, is definitely on the high side for the majority of people heating with firewood.

Europe, until recently, has been one of the biggest users of diesel. Pretty much every car sold used to or still has a diesel option.
You also have to add in fuel.used to transport. I generally don't transport more than a mile so not much there for me

Yeah, I forget other people have to transport wood. I haven't even exhausted all the standing and deadfall within walking distance of my splitter.

I'm very much aware of that.
I've built or worked on 4 vehicles for my deceased boss who has driven in every country in the world except I think 2 in S America (for obvious reasons) who then spent 5 years circumventing the globe on his ice class expedition yacht.
I sadly don’t have the first one I did. 88 Range Rover with a full kitchen and a crap ton of spare parts that traveled from London to Beijing. They then did a trip all around South America with the 2 in the picture. Last one was a 70 MB 280SE cabriolet that they drove all over China until his buddy was going a little too fast in a water crossing and hydrologicly seized the engine. That car was then removed from the country by law and shipped to the UK where his buddy had it completely rebuilt with a frame off restoration.

Frankly, I don't care. I live in rural MA and travel 270 miles one way to a much more rural Maine. I still miss my boat with twin 200 HP outboards.
I worked hard to get where I am and refuse to apologize to anyone for what I've got and had.
Somebody might want to ask our elite leaders that same question cause I'm 99% sure they don't care either.

You were the one who introduced the comparison to other countries. Why is it you don't care now?
I will readily admit I have some toys and hobbies that use more gas than need be. But in general driving I try to use the most efficient vehicles I have that will do what I need. And I probably use more than average because I drive work trucks every day. But I do that because those are the vehicles I need to use inorder to do my job.
But I also use very little fossil fuels to heat my house. We have reduced our electricity consumption quite a bit as well. If everyone did a little bit to reduce consumption it would make a big difference.

My comparison was in relation to eliminating small gas engines while the rest of the country remains mostly as is and the country as a whole is doing a hellofa lot more than most other countries like China but that's a nice spin.
SO when is China going to clean up its act?
How is saying you introduced the comparison to other countries a spin when that is exactly what you did? Just because you don't like to be called out on something doesn't mean it's a spin.
As I said before California has been the leader in environmental reforms for decades. They try things some work out well and are adopted by the rest of the country and some don't and go away.
Why do you care about what California does but don't care how our consumption stacks up to other countries?
And china is cleaning their act up currently.

You are complaining about our country doing nothing in regards to emissions reforms on a thread about emissions reform in our own country. China is actually doing something about curbing their own emissions, even if it is just because they depend on foreign fossil fuel imports. There are actually affordable electric cars in China and the government has heavily subsidized solar and wind power in the last few years, just like this country is doing. I'm not really sure what you are arguing.

A few thoughts here.
First, about the original subject of this thread, I actually think the way the legislation is written is good because it requires the state to consider several factors with regard to availability, performance, and cost of non-ICE options before banning the ICE versions. It doesn't just say on a date certain all small ICE equipment is banned. Some were wondering about the part that mentioned the word generators. I suspect they mean home backup batteries that are becoming more commonly installed with solar panels. Some examples would be Tesla Powerwall, Generac Pwrcell, Enphase Encharge, and Sonnen. They can do either whole home backup or critical loads in a sub panel, and they do it without exhaust fumes or noise, and if the sun comes out they charge back up if you have solar panels.
As far as my experience with non ICE equipment goes, this summer I got an EGO battery powered string trimmer to replace a gas one I had been using that was a gutless wonder. The battery one is a beast and I don't need to wear ear plugs. I'm never going back to a gas trimmer, and mostly because of the performance upgrade. The no fumes or emissions is a bonus.
I posted recently in another thread about the electric plug in Swisher 22 ton splitter I recently bought. American made heavy duty piece of equipment. It's an absolute animal splitting anything I can put through it! I knew I was going to be doing most of my splitting in the area next to my garage, so I have access to power in the garage. I no longer have to worry about gas going bad if the splitter sits a while. Also, I'm not dizzy from the fumes after several hours of splitting and it's quiet enough that I don't need ear plugs when running it.
My next truck will be the new electric F150 when my Tundra has reached the end of it's usefullness, but that will be a while because the Tundra only has 26,000 miles on it, and my wife said she's getting the next new vehicle so I'm trying to convince her to get the electric F150 so I can borrow it a lot.
Chainsaw. Can't replace my Husqvarna 372XPW with a battery powered version yet, so I'll still be using a few gallons of gas a year for that, maybe 10-20 or so.
Still need the zero turn mower for the big lawn, so there's a few gallons of gas there too, but I'm not one of those people who mows my lawn every weekend. I often let it go 3-4 weeks before mowing so that saves on gas a bit.
Change is not always easy, I get that. I think many people will be convinced (as I was) by the performance upgrade of the newer electric/battery powered equipment that is available now or will be in the near future. Ultimately, I think the market will drive the change as much as anything else.

Our economies and people will suffer as our government implement clean air priorities,it's already happening.I deliver heating fuel in my town.There is $.1073 a liter carbon tax being added to the expense of heating oil.I have customers suffering because they are on fixed incomes and cannot afford to heat their homes.
Fixed income so they don't have a choice to change heating systems
First Nation Elders get a $2000.00 a year allotment for heat.If thier tanks are empty in the fall the first fill uses over half of their allotment.

All nations do the same thing and they all have their problems --serious -problems...Small engines right now like lawn mowers and wood cutters and the like are good to be in the electric switch and they are cleaner and more clean to work with and they do a good job..But to carry this on further to the main fuels--(right now) ( oil, gas, LP, diesel, and coal )----In my opinion "The timing of this is really suspicious" and In my opinion it is the wrong time to be doing this strict stuff because they are trying to ram this type of legislative down peoples throats all in the name of politics--it is disgraceful and this type of ruling is bad "for this moment in time"--many countries are having "hard times" right now including our own and this winter in my opinion these fuels are going to become very scarce with a lot of black outs as well...i pray that bill that they are trying to put forward right now "fails"---we need infrastructure and both parties can agree on that but when these "sick" people who do not gave one iota about the people of this nation and our culture and our constitutional rights trying to force their social agenda's down our throats needs a lot more consideration and a lot more discussion within both parties and they (Biden and his crew) are not doing this --nor will they ever consider and they do not have a mandate by way of the people . The house has very few extra votes on their side and the senate is 50/50 plus one..We all agree we need to help the environment and we all agree electric is the coming thing but in my opinion not at this time because "our country is not ready for it" especially with this inept administration that happens to be in control--its not time and we are just not ready for it...Our fuel prices are rising rapidly --all fuels---our wind mills are not adequate and killing birds--plenty of them--I love birdies and they freeze up and take lots and lots of land as well as change the environment in the areas that they are placed.. I can see solar but they need to do something about the vast amount of heat that it makes in the environment and dries things out as well.., plus they take up a lot of ground space as well--none of these things are ready at this time...I can see small tools and cutters with batteries and electric hook ups but for the larger things--not now---in my opinion..Save out Country and get rid of the bill in congress...Canada and Australia are suffering countries just like we are struggling and God Bless those people as well as our own people--for our nations are in for it....and our administrators----use your own words here...Prices are rising and fuels this winter will be scarce and we are struggling and my pocket book is almost empty for yes I have limited income and had to buy a wood stove just for security of being warm when I know the future is bleak just like its been over these past many months and all we get as a people are mandates...terrible....Its just not the right time.....old mrs clancey
Again have you actually read the bill in question? Allot of what is contained in it is about researching options and improving the infrastructure to support the change.
Like I wrote before we need a infrastructure bill but not when they play politics with it for they should vote on it separately but they will not because then they know they will not have a chance in h--- to pass "their social bill" that they attached with it and as far as I am concerned at this moment may both bills fail--save our country for we cannot afford it especially on how they will write it and sneak unneeded stuff in it that will be very hard to get rid of--these people are not competent as far as I am concerned...clancey
