Burn pot scraping

I use the Harman tool for quick scrapes but use a flathead screwdriver for cleaning
the burnpot as it can get into the corners better.

Only time I really need to dig out the chisels is if I have been burning crappy/mediocre pellets.
The lower the quality of the pellets, the more cleaning.

Even when you burn those Firesides? Those really tarred up the plate on the bottom of my Santa Fe. Otherwise not a terrible pellet, but seriously had to chisel that stuff off.

the tool that came with my Harman - and a big/heavy duty long flat-head screwdriver with a hammer. To selectively chisel off the carbon build up on the sides of the burn pot. If I don't tap this off, it builds up more and more, until the auger rubs against it at the base of the burn pot and I get an awesome sqeeeeeeek.

Even with fireside ultras. I have burned everything on my list ,no problem.

Went to a Harman seminar and the Tech suggested a gasket scraper.
I use a 1 foot chisel that I sharpened. I do not use a hammer with the chisel!
Have had good luck with this. The tool that came with the stove doesn't work.

Where and when was the Harman Seminar? I am interested in going to one.

It was held at Northern Lights Hearth and Sports a couple of years ago.
They are located in Farmington on Rt 2 near WalMart.
Somewhere on the forum I posted some points he covered.
I will try to find that post for you.

I use a Painters 5-in-1 tool available at any hardware store.

It is a bit stiffer than a putty knife and the point helps get into those nooks and crannys.

Ditto... and some of us don't have burn pots with "stirrers", so things settle.

I use the Harman tool too, but it's hardness-less for an easy and constant workmanship. So a blacksmith -friend of mine- soaked it for me. Since, I file it up (lightly, under an 80° angle) only once a week, with a “bâtarde†(strong file). It works fine (once a day) and fire is well “blown†and really effective, despite low power-output settings !

I just used a grout removal tool to clean my 25-pdv it works great. It looks like a screw driver but on the end is a triangular carbide piece. The tip of the triangle gets into corners and the flat part will scrape everything else.

What do you guys use to scrape your burn pots? I have the scraper that came with the stove but for the harder carbon buildup inhale been using a flat head screwdriver. I feel like the should be an easier tool, thinking maybe a chisel?

What do you all use?

(Home) Approx one ton in the Mt Vernon and have not scraped it yet.
(work) Approx one ton in the Heatilator and pull the handle on the right side of the stove onbce a day. Never scraped

Looking forward to the same results you have Eric....I'm burning the Pro Pellets I got over the summer right now.
