The quad docs say that for a corner orientation I can go as close as 2" to the back right corner. The first fire I made got a little hot (thought for a bit that pushed in was off!) and the side wall got pretty toasty. I think it may need to be farther because of the angle I have the stove at (where it's not really in the corner).
thanks
What is the wall covering? I know it's not, but it looks like wood paneling. If it's 2" you would need a clearance shield to prevent heat build up. Even then you are looking at a substantial distance
It is wood paneling. Something about the way you asked confirms my belief that I'm too close to this wall. I'm going to attach the image from the QF 5700 manual which specifies distances from the corners.
I think that a couple of things happened the first night:
1) I really had the thing running hot (up to about 650F on the chimney out about 3' above the top of the stove)
2) My stove is not really a corner install; it's angle puts it much closer to the right side. If it was positioned in as a corner, the side of the wall wouldn't have gotten as hot.
But, I'm thinking I need to put a heat shield behind the stove. I'm not thrilled about this (just want to be done) but it might be necessary?
I feel like I've got to get this right. Please advise.
Thanks much,
