I just have developed a habit of setting it. It's risk management to me, no point to let a bunch of razor sharp teeth move if not needed. My 025 when idiling will not spin the chain but the 268 will. Why take the risk.

Thanks ! The reason I asked is that the chains on My saws don't move at idle . And I don't move around until the chain stops .
Well , other than the time My saw convinced Me to buy chaps

I had an incident that involved me pulling the saw out of a cut turning around and got tripped up on some slash. When I hit the ground I somehow managed to hit the throttle on the saw as I fell on it. If it weren't for the chain brake being set I would have had some pretty serious if not potentially fatal injuries.

If have to move around brush I carry the saw by the front handle with one hand, usually my left, with the chain facing to the rear. That way if I stumble I don't inadvertantly goose the throttle and I have a free hand to steady myself. Chainbrake is the best way though to prevent an accident along with clearing the work area or dragging the logs to a clear spot.

Dont beat yourself up too bad, I have cut wood for over 30 years with no chaps but after finding this forum I now have a pair and some people think I am goofy for wearing them.

These are cheaper than the price of a single stitch. Linky to CHAPS Cheapo !

Although they may not keep you from getting a scratch they are sure better than nothing. When I first put them on I found them a bit cumbersome. But after a few minutes I forgot I even had them on.

Nasty . . . spent many a year without chaps . . . and honestly I still don't have a pair . . . but while I'm slow, I'm not a complete moron . . . pics like this and experiences that friends and co-workers have had in the past few months have convinced me to purchase a pair of chaps this Spring before I start cutting again.

I agree, I real close to laying out the money, Cheap insurance.
My Dad cut himself once, was laid up for 6 weeks, he never got chaps afterwards & no other incidences but 1 is bad enough.

A few years ago, I sliced the top of my foot with an axe. Here's what happened in the ER

examination
X-ray
tetanus shot
local anesthetic
irrigation/cleaning
only three stitches
bandage
Rx for antibiotic and pain killer

Without insurance, it would have been well over $1000. (I had them calculate it for me.)

My favorite Labonville full-wrap chaps = $79

$79 worth of prevention is far better than any after-the-fact insurance policy, pain endured, and time lost.

After seeing a couple of pic's like yours I ordered up a set of Labonville full wrap chaps a couple of weeks ago. Earlier this week a buddy and me bucked a downed maple and split the wood. He was laughing at me saying nice a$$less chaps. I'll show him your picture.
