[Hearth.com] Brand new stove won’t stay lit
Brand new replaced our old stove. It won’t even give us a good strong flame. It’ll light but then calm down to a small flame that’s like an inch high but burn violently for a small flame and then putters out.
Both intake and exhaust pipes have been cleaned out thoroughly!
Yet it it’ll always give us the E-2 code and not do much.

I understand the e2 code but I can’t figure out why. The stove is literally brand new and hasn’t had a fire in it lasting more than a few minutes. Auger works fine as well. I can’t seem to believe we have a failed part somewhere off the bat bc we live in a hard to ship area so that’s just annoying to have to work around.

The only issue I had was the upper baffle fell down during shipping (or it was stored in the front with the air wash plate but re installed it back correctly and the air wash is positioned correctly.

And yet it still won’t give us a strong flame. We even bought a fresh bag of pellets from a different brand as our last was old.

It’s an englander 25-pdvc.

Sounds like proof of fire sensor disconnected, loose wire or faulty
put a jumper between the 2 wires at the sensor (make sure they do not ground to the stove)
start your stove and see if it runs as it should (longer than 25 min.

I circled what I think is the sensor? The igniter is right beside and I cleaned it gently with a brush. No visible ash there. Neither both sides of the stove that have a 9/16 screw holding on to the plates. No ash there too.

This is also the vaccum sensor. The wire on the right looks like it’s off but it’s connected to another prong there. Not sure about the wiring

Yeah I’m not sure where the sensor is. In my post above what I thought was it was just the mounting screw for the igniter

I have to say I am not as knowledgeable about your stove as I should be but it does sound like a thermal sensor problem
hopefully someone will come along with an answer for you
If you look at the wiring for your stove you will see the sensor as to what kind and where
I have no idea . It,s job is to tell your board that yes a fire has been established so it is time to move from start to run

Your stove uses a thermal sensor to tell temperatures. Could be a black or white cloth weave cover over wire. Might be the thick black wire in back ground of your picture hard to tell. Check to make sure it is connected on board and the other end should be bolted on the back of your stove/firebox. Just follow the wire from the board.

Not sure about the wiring
Wiring on Vacuum switch appears to be correct for a negative pressure stove. The switch is used in a number of applications, The grey side is for negative pressure which your stove is. The black side is for positive pressure should not have a hose connected and the empty spade is for positive pressure applications, Stays empty on your stove.

Found it. It is indeed connected at both ends

Manually lit and this is how the flame burns till it goes out. It’s currently 1:08. Will update when it goes out.

Hopper shut? Heat range 5-9? Does it burn all pellets in pot? Or does it go out and fill pot full of unburnt pellets? Bottom Auger stops? Next thing to check would be that set screws connecting auger motors to augers are tight pic 2 below. Then try "Jumping| the Vacuum switch. Then try "Jumping" the hopper switch. Jumping the switch means to unplug stove, unplug wires from Vacuum switch, attach those two wires together with paper clip or jumper wire, tape that connection so it does not touch stove or you will short your board. Plug stove back in and try starting again. If still not working unplug stove replace vacuum wires back on switch and then try the hopper switch. Or you could try hopper switch first as it is easier to get to.

It does burn out the pot. I’ve taken the auger out before. Wasn’t jammed. The hopper lid works fine. But I feel like jumping them shouldn’t be the diy I asked for when buying it brand new😩

I had the heat range on 5-5 as per instructions when lighting takes long. But again. Doesn’t solve anything.

Did you install the stove or was it installed for you?
Makes no never mind it is new and under warranty
Monday morning call the people you bought it from
and say you want it fixed. You have done what you can
to find the problem and the only thing left is a bad
control board. If it burns for 15 minutes and goes out the
board does not see the fire (heat)

Make sure the auger set screw is in line with the flat side on the auger motor shaft. If tightened on the round part of shaft it can slip. Also can you tell if bottom auger is running continuously, it should. Top auger runs intermittently.

I mention the Hopper and Vacuum switches because they can come from factory bad or not hooked up it happens. If not something you want to check then you will have to wait on dealer service tech if they have one or return stove to shop.

After all checks and test we have you try it could come down to faulty board it happens.

Did you unplug from board and plug it back in?

One last thing and then I will leave you alone, if you push the Air on Temp button does it display 1 in the blower speed display?
Oh you’re not being a bother. Thank you for helping so far go through the checklist. It’s all the general stuff but you never can be too sure. Sometimes it could be something so simple.

And yes the air on temp shows 1, I haven’t messed with the factory settings

Leaning toward bad temp sensor or bad board. That small fire should be enough for the stove to sense Proof of Fire and start feeding rate that the stove is set at (5). 13 minutes is the time the stove waits for Proof of Fire with stove shutting down at 15 minutes that seems the most likely problem. Check the pins on the board were the Temp sensors plugs in check the sensor wire from board to back of stove for kinks or pinches. Have dealer replace sensor wire or stove.

Thanks. I will try to check that out (education in electrical engineering. So my troubleshooting skills are being tested here 😩).

What’s going on now (I haven’t made any major changes) the thing won’t light anymore.

Edit. So this is the fire I have going and right now it’s still in Startup mode.

I would think the numbers should be higher I am not sure what the numbers should be but try upping the first number
In my Englander I think they were 4 4 1 the first number is the LFF so it is possible it isn't feeding enough pellets
try maybe 3 for the first number
On older ones the Default is 6-4-1 I don't know how much it would have changed
