We get a lot more expensive equipment from China. Air compressors, generators, and other tools that need servicing not to mention the electronics. I don't see anything short of a tariff getting in the way of the introduction this or any other product that undersells our current domestic market. Can even understand a current domestic producer outsourcing a favorite product. it's all about profit. You and I can hold out, but that won't halt this sort of thing. Anyone own a foreign made car???

Yes, lots of people own foreign cars. But only ones that have a stellar dealer network and a reputation for high quality. I have no qualms about buying BMW, Toyota, or Nissan, and in fact we've owned all three brands.

I would however never buy a Chinese made car, no matter how cheap the cost, it's just too much money for an unproven product. Maybe 10-15 years down the road, when they have been time tested and proven reliable, but not up front.

So while I might buy a tool or tv set or cell phone that's been made in China, I really don't want a cheap, bargain priced Chinese pellet stove.

Yes it's Harman, but look at the import declaration: it's for wood mantels. It's not like they're importing pellet stoves from China and re-branding them.

Worst case scenario but could happen. I dont trust much of anything from china, especially not from that site. Any company with the revenue or capital to make reputable product can market them in the US or break into the US market via other methods, like home depot, etc.

It looks like they some what copied the Forester model previously sold in Tractor supply stores. Probably just as good considering that model had a simple flat sheet metal heat exchanger or what they considered a heat exchanger.
The problem with chinese goods is they are almost there but they lack that extra 20% in workmanship,quality control ,and quality of materials. If they put a bit extra into these things their things would be competitive on all levels . They would be able to get that extra 20% in increased prices and still outsell the rest of the world.
Copying or reverse engineering anything the rest of the world produces is easy. They are experts at that. They simply fail to make high quality stuff for some strange reason, and labor costs isn`t one of them

True, that. The Chinese are indeed the masters of reverse engineering, and it's always been puzzling to me why they can't (or won't) replicate the quality control that the Japanese, Germans, and Americans are famous for. They would truly own the world economy if they could get their quality in line.

I suppose it's fortunate for the rest of the world that they still have the reputation of producing cheaply made, low quality goods.

I seriously doubt it...but on the other hand, I'm old enough to "never say never". I'll tell you this - for all the knocks that the US Auto industry takes, I've had excellent results with my two GM trucks. I have a 2000 Yukon with 200,000 miles that my daughter now drives, and it still looks and runs nearly as good as it did when I bought it.

I had an '05 BMW X5, and the only thing I liked about it (okay, I loved about it) was driving it on the interstate. It was bumpy and uncomfortably stiff driving around town, didn't have a third row, and was useless for going to Home Depot or Lowes and getting a bags of mulch, wood pellets, etc. So I bought an '11 Tahoe, I definitely learned my lesson. Sexy is nice, but big, roomy and practical wins the day.

I was just talking to a guy at work a few weeks ago that had bought a used pellet stove and he mentioned B-vent, how he was tempted to use it, it was so much cheaper, an so on - and that he was only using pellet pipe because of his local code requirements. I didn't say anything, but inside I was just thinking man, how dumb are you? You're going to risk a potential fire hazard for the cost of a couple hundred bucks worth of pipe?

My local Ace Hardware told me that B vent was pellet vent and tried to sell it to me. Luckily I had done my homework and been on hearth.com for a year before buying a stove and i seemed to recall that not being the case. I followed up with some searching and went elsewhere. The small town I live in has a tractor supply and the Ace Hardware... I'm sure there are some of those out here in town with B vent on their pellet stove.
