no way i will waste my time making small splits. I leave that up to my wife. She waste her time doing it, but as long as she is splitting,, i dont say anything. Big splits burn longer and save me time splitting, stacking, and loading the stove. i keep branches up to 6-7 inches without splitting.

We burn wood down to 2" and anything 4-5" and up gets split because it's easier to load up a small firebox like we have.

i am with the majority. rounds are great up to 4-5 inches IF you have the time to let them dry out. as others have said it takes much longer for a round to dry than a similar split. beacuse of that, i usually split almost anything over 3.
