Hello everyone,

I came home from work the other day and went to load my insert for the night and the door latch was extremely hard to rotate. It looks like the handle should be riding on a bushing of some sort but the bushing is seized to the handle and is rotating in the door. Anyone else have this problem, and if so what do I need to do to remedy the problem.

Thanks for any help
Tony

Try lubricating the roller with molybdenum disulphide. It comes in a spray can with a liquid carrier to let it crawl into cracks. Better than graphite in this application. Use the straw for pinpoint application. A single squirt will do. Any oil compound will decompose with heat. Use gloves. It is black and inky.

How old is your stove? BK had an issue with some bad brass bushings, there wasn’t enough tolerance allowed if I remember right. I’ve changed a few that have had this happen. Sometimes after the stove cools down it’ll come out of it.

I've never had that but I see what you are talking about:

It LOOKS simple. I would pop that one roll pin, take the handle out, and grease the inside of the sleeve with high temp anti-sieze (which you will appreciate having for many other stove parts also). Done!

I have a jar of this- works great on my stove. I have never lubricated that door handle bushing, though.

That might work. Typically this has been a failed bushing though. Mine actually did it, then just came out of it. Been fine for 2 years now.
It’s very easy to remove like you said, just need a roll pin punch. I’d suggest giving it a shot.

This will be my third season with the stove. Jetsam, does the bushing rotate on yours or is it pressed into the door?
Thanks for the replies

Mine rotates with the handle.

I also lied earlier when I said I'd never lubricated it, because upon closer inspection it has copper anti sieze on it.

Perils of aging and all that, I guess!

It should rotate with the handle. The block it passes through is brass. I’m not sure exactly what was happening, it only happened to a small quantity of stoves. I think BK decided there wasn’t enough tolerance between the bushing and the mounting block.

I took the handle apart and was expecting a serious fight trying to get the handle out of the block attached to the door. After I removed the roll pin and the latch I sprayed some JB 80 on it to try and loosen it up(I could barely rotate it at this point). I came back 10 minutes later and gave it a turn just to see if it helped and with about a 1/4 turn the handle was free and I was able to just slide it out. It looks like a chunk of brass came off and jammed up the handle. Then with me using it for a few days like that the hole got pretty tore up. I cleaned up the shaft and hole then lubricated it with the anti seize you recommended. Everything is in working order just in the nick of time, its a whopping 0 degrees outside and dropping.
Thanks again for the help, and happy Holidays!
