Bad idea or Good?

Got some stock feed from Fleet farm and it has 1/8 inch pellets. Sure would hate to try and keep that mill running.

I bought some hardwood pellets that came from Mo. a few years ago that were 1/4 diameter and only 1/4 long. The place went out of business due to a fire but they were the best I ever burned.

I have a similar arrangement, but I keep a cover on the bin to keep the cats out.
That scoop would drive me crazy, too small and hard on the wrist. I use one of these.

Never heard of 1/8 inch pellets. We see Indeck which are 1/4 inch. That would probably stop most of the dust -Good idea.

Yea, Ron, they're 1/4" diameter and it's 1/4" hardware cloth under the window screening. I was relying on my memory, which obviously sucks! My short term memory sucks. I have to put that in my signature...... Oh, it's there

I can't imagine screening my pellets… I seldom see many fines and they never bother my stoves… but if you have to you have to...

The fines don't bother my Mt Vernon, but when I fill the hopper I can see a cloud of dust highlighted by the light shining in through the windows. It is worth the extra minute to clean the pellets before I pour.

I had a system like the one bill3rail but used a large plastic funnel ... like the duct boot better. The box got converted into a cat house for a stray that only lasted about a month before he realized that inside was better and now sleeps on my bed Haven't gotten back to returning it to original use. I've been busy building a new pellet palace...

I'm low tech...I cut the bag and dump the pellets into the hopper. I try to do the dumping all in one swinging motion. Not for some but works for me.

Agree - I just pour the bag right in. Depending on the amount of beers I had, I sometimes get a few pellets on the ground. <oops>

Hard to do with a Mt Vernon AE insert. The bin barely holds a bag and the hatch is narrow.

Never ever screened my pellets… I have a cedar chest that holds about 3 bags… they come in from my porch storage area and I pour 'em in there. Next stop the stove…
